Overview of the Eligibility Criteria for NEST 2019

Age
Born on or after 1st August 1998.
Qualification
Completed 12th or equivalent exam with any combination of PCMB with minimum 60% marks (55% for reserved categories).
Exceptions
Cleared 12th or equivalent exam before 2016- Not eligible.

NEST 2019 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria plays an important role a candidate has to satisfy all the norms that are been set by the authority in order to apply for the exam. The basic qualification to apply for the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) 2019 is the candidate should have passed the class 12. The NEST 2019 exam pattern comprises 5 divisions.

Educational Qualifications

 Candidates should have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination from a recognized board or university of India this is the basic criteria that the NEST authority looks for. 

Aspirants seeking admissions to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) and University Of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Center For Excellence In Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS) for the integrated Master of Science(M.Sc) program should be from a regular science stream only.

All candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/ Biology as their mandatory subjects in their 12th Standard.

Year of Passing Out For NEST 2019 

The Candidates must have passed XII standard board examination or an equivalent exam in any of the years 2017/2018 or 2019 from any recognized Higher Secondary Education Board in India. Applicants who have cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams before 2017 are not eligible to apply for NEST 2019.

Only students who satisfy the rules of Indian citizenship are eligible to apply for the exam. And, students must be Indian resident Nationals. NRI students or PIO or OCI or foreign candidates are not eligible to apply for NEST 2019.

 In order to get enrolled into the M.Sc program, the  General category applicants must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in 12th standard or equivalent exam.

And the Reserved category candidates should have scored 55% aggregate marks in 12th standard or equivalent exam. The candidates should satisfy all the Eligibility Criteria before proceeding for NEST 2019 Application form. 

Note: Applicants who are about to appear for their qualifying exams for 12th standard or equivalent can also apply for NEST 2019 Exam. The Candidates will have to check the Syllabus for NEST 2019 based on each subject.

  • Other Backward Class Non-Creamy Layer: This class should have been mentioned in the central list of OBCs as of June 01, 2018 and the OBC–NCL Certificate should have been obtained from a competent authority on or after June 01, 2018. The Candidates belonging to the creamy layer of OBC are NOT entitled to a reservation and are considered as belonging to the General category.
  • Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe: Students will receive the benefits of reservation only when their castes and tribes are mentioned in the respective lists of corresponding states published by the Government of India.
  • Persons with Disability: 5% of seats are reserved in every category, i.e., General, OBC–NCL, SC/ST and for persons with disabilities.

Supernumerary quota (for J&K candidates)

  • Supernumerary quota: Two seats in both the institutions are reserved for candidates from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Only students who belong to J&K, and who appeared (or appearing in 2019) for 12th or equivalent examination through the State Board of Jammu & Kashmir are eligible. Also, candidates from CBSE affiliated schools located in J&K are eligible to claim this quota.

Yes, you are eligible to apply for the exam.

Applicants who have cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams in the year 2016 or 2017 are eligible for NEST 2018 registration. Applicants who cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams before 2016 are not eligible to apply for NEST 2018.

Yes, you are eligible for NEST. The candidate should be mandatorily from science stream with any combination of science subjects. However, the students have all the four subjects in the first year of college.

There is no restriction for candidates applying for NEST. Thus, for programmes through NEST in NISER or CBS:

  • The candidate belonging from the General or OBC category, the candidate eligible should be born on or after August 01, 1996
  • Candidates from SC or ST or PWD has a relaxation of 5 years

The candidates applying for NEST should be from science stream having a mandatory combination of Biology or Chemistry or Mathematics or Physics at class XII. The candidate has to pass Higher Secondary Exam or any equivalent exam with a minimum of 60%. He should also take up NESTexam for the upcoming academic year.
