Overview of the Eligibility Criteria for NEST 2018

NEST 2018 Eligibility Criteria

  • Subjects: Aspirants seeking admissions to NISER and UM-DAE CEBS for the integrated Master of Science(M.Sc) programme should be from a regular science stream only. The candidates should preferably have any combination of 3 subjects in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.

  • Year gap: Applicants who have cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams in the year 2016 or 2017 are eligible for NEST 2018 registration. Applicants who cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams before 2016 are not eligible to apply for NEST 2018.

  • Note: Applicants who are about to appear for their qualifying exams for 12th standard or equivalent can also apply.

  • Minimum Marks Requirement: In order to get enrolled in the M.Sc program, the applicants must have secured minimum 60% for General category and minimum 55% for SC, ST, and PD category in the 12th standard or equivalent exam to satisfy the eligibility criteria for NEST 2018.

  • The candidates should satisfy all NEST 2018 Eligibility Criteria before proceeding for NEST 2018 Application form. The candidates will only get the NEST 2018 Admit Card once the Candidates are done with filling the NEST 2018 form.

NEST 2018 Age Limit:

  • Applicants must have born on or after 1 August 1998 (for general and OBC candidates).

  • The SC, ST, and PD (Physically Disabled) applicants are given a relaxation of five years in the above age limit.

  • For OBC category candidates the OBC(NCL) certificate should be issued on or after June 1, 2017

Yes, you are eligible to apply for the exam.

Applicants who have cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams in the year 2016 or 2017 are eligible for NEST 2018 registration. Applicants who cleared their 12th standard or equivalent exams before 2016 are not eligible to apply for NEST 2018.

Yes, you are eligible for NEST. The candidate should be mandatorily from science stream with any combination of science subjects. However, the students have all the four subjects in the first year of college.

There is no restriction for candidates applying for NEST. Thus, for programmes through NEST in NISER or CBS:

  • The candidate belonging from the General or OBC category, the candidate eligible should be born on or after August 01, 1996
  • Candidates from SC or ST or PWD has a relaxation of 5 years

The candidates applying for NEST belonging to scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST) or physical disabilities (PD) category will have the minimum requirement of 55% aggregate.

The candidates applying for NEST should be from science stream having a mandatory combination of Biology or Chemistry or Mathematics or Physics at class XII. The candidate has to pass Higher Secondary Exam or any equivalent exam with a minimum of 60%. He should also take up NESTexam for the upcoming academic year.
