CBSE Class 12 Syllabus 2023 - Students can find the new syllabus and assessment pattern for the CBSE 12th board exam 2023. The CBSE 12th syllabus is essential for students to learn what topics they should give importance to and start with. Table of Contents

For 2023, according to the CBSE class 12 syllabus, section-wise questions will be asked on skill subjects for CBSE class 12. All the chapters of the skill subjects have been divided into three sections by the board, and each section will have questions from the stated chapters only. There are 18 skill subjects available for class 12th. The skill subject will be 100 marks (50 for theory and practical each).


In April 2022, CBSE announced it was scrapping the two-term exam model and conducting a final exam for class 12 students. The board has announced a new pattern and syllabus for the same. Students can download the new syllabus for CBSE class 12 from the table below.

Students can follow the steps given below to download the CBSE class 12 syllabus 2023 from the official website:

Step 1: Go to the official website - and click on "Academic Website".

Step 2: Click on the "Curriculum" option in the top menu bar. Select "Curriculum 2023" from the drop-down list.

Step 3: Select the option "Senior Secondary Curriculum (XI-XII)" or "Senior Secondary Curriculum (XI-XII)".

Step 4: Choose the file you want to open. The link will appear.

Step 5: Click on the link to open the PDF file. You can download and save the CBSE class 12 syllabus PDF file.

CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern 2023

For CBSE class 12 exams 2023, question papers would comprise 20% MCQs or objective questions. 30% would be competency-based questions. The remaining 50% would constitute the subjective or short/long answer questions.

Competency-based questions would be minimum 30%. These can be in the form of Multiple Choice Questions, Case based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions, or any other types

Passing Criteria for CBSE Class 12 Board Exams

A candidate needs to obtain a minimum of 33% in theory and 33% in practical/internal examination to pass CBSE class 12th exams. A candidate must also achieve 33% marks in aggregate in all the subjects. Below are the detailed passing criteria for CBSE 12th board exams:

  • A candidate receives a pass certificate if they acquire a grade higher than an 'E' in all internal assessment subjects.
  • A candidate shall obtain at least 33% marks in all the five external examination subjects (main/compartmental).
  • For subjects involving practical work, a candidate must obtain 33% marks in theory and 33% marks in practicals separately to qualify.
  • Candidates exempt from one or more internal examinations will be eligible to appear in the external exams.
  • However, the result shall be declared only after the fulfillment of other conditions.
