GATE Geomatics Engineering Syllabus 2024: Marking Scheme

GATE Geomatics Engineering Syllabus consists of the core subject Geomatics Engineering and General Aptitude section. The core subject GATE Geomatics Engineering section is further divided into Part A and Part B.

It is mandatory for the candidates to attempt Part A whereas in Part B, they can choose one between Section I and Section II.

GATE Geomatics Engineering Syllabus

The GATE Geomatics Engineering is a recently introduced subject paper in the examination. The candidates who have chosen Geomatics Engineering as their primary paper can choose any one of Civil Engineering (CE), Geology and Geophysics (GG), Environmental Science & Engineering (ES), or Mining Engineering (MN) as their second paper.

The part-wise syllabus of GATE Geomatics Engineering is as follows. 

Part A (Mandatory)

The following is the syllabus for Part A which is the mandatory section that candidates must attempt in the GATE Geomatics Engineering question paper.

Remote Sensing	Basic concept, Electromagnetic spectrum, Spectral signature, ResolutionsSpectral. Spatial, Temporal and Radiometric, Platforms and Sensors, Remote Sensing Data Products - PAN, Multispectral, Microwave, Thermal, Hyperspectral, Visual and digital interpretation methods
GIS	Introduction, Data Sources, Data Models and Data Structures, Algorithms, DBMS, Creation of Databases (spatial and non-spatial), Spatial analysis - Interpolation, Buffer, Overlay, Terrain Modeling and Network analysis.

Part B (Candidates must attend either Section I or Section II)

The Part B of the question paper includes Section I and Section II. The candidates must choose to attempt any of these two sections. Candidates can make the choice during the examination. Prior choices need not be submitted. The GATE syllabus for Section I and Section II of Part B are as follows.

Aerial Photogrammetry	Types of photographs, Flying height and scale, Relief (height) displacement, Stereoscopy, 3-D Model, Height determination using Parallax Bar, Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Slope.

Part B - Section II

GATE Geomatics Engineering Part B - Section II Syllabus

Data Quantization and Processing	Sampling and quantization theory, Principle of Linear System, Convolution, Continuous and Discrete Fourier Transform.
Digital Image Processing	Digital image characteristics: image histogram and scattergram and significance; Variance-Covariance matrix, Correlation matrix and their significance.
Radiometric and Geometric Corrections	Registration and Resampling techniques.
Image Enhancement	Contrast Enhancement: Linear and Non-linear methods; Spatial Enhancement: Noise and Spatial filters
Image Transformation	Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Discriminant Analysis, Color transformations (RGB - IHS, CMYK), Indices (Ratios, NDVI, NDWI).
Image Segmentation and Classification	Simple techniques.

GATE General Aptitude Section Syllabus

The GATE General Aptitude section has a weightage of 15 marks in the GATE question paper. The syllabus for the same is tabulated below.

Verbal Aptitude: Basic English grammar: tenses, articles, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, verb-noun agreement, and other parts of speech Basic vocabulary: words, idioms and phrases in context Reading and comprehension Narrative sequencing. Quantitative Aptitude Data interpretation: Data graphs (bar graphs, pie charts, and other graphs representing data), 2- and 3-dimensional plots, maps, and tables. Numerical computation and estimation: ratios and proportions, percentages, powers, exponents and logarithms, permutations and combinations, and series Mensuration and geometry Elementary statistics and probability. Analytical Aptitude Logic: Deduction and induction, Analogy, Numerical relations, and reasoning. Spatial Aptitude Transformation of shapes: Translation, rotation, scaling, mirroring, assembling, and grouping Paper folding, cutting, and patterns in 2 and 3 dimensions.
