IIT Gandhinagar will select an outstanding applicant for the position of post-doctoral fellow. It is a temporary programme for one year. However, the extension of the last six months depends on the candidate's performance. The applicants should ensure they meet the below criteria:
- They should hold an MA or PhD
- The candidates should have obtained a degree in archaeology or cultural anthropology with a notable publication record.
- In addition, they should obtain the following skills:
- Data acquisition and critical analysis
- Field research
- Oral and written communication
- The applicants should have specialized in ancient crafts, early medieval archaeology, ethnoarchaeology, ethnohistorical methods, and pyro-technology.
- The authorities prefer candidates less than 35 years of age with independent fieldwork experience, knowledge of isotope analysis and the Gujarati language.

The selected PDF will additionally receive the following benefits:
- The institute will grant them a monthly remuneration ranging from INR 35,000 to INR 45,000. However, the amount will vary based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
