Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship invites applications from working professionals below 35-year-old to teach in government schools in rural India. Candidates of any discipline with a minimum graduate degree can apply for the one-year fellowship program. A monthly stipend of INR 35,000 will be given to each fellow along with housing allowance and insurances.

The Fellowship has been implemented by the Azim Premji Foundation with the aim of providing an opportunity for young working professionals to engage in the field of the public education system of India. Young candidates of age below 35 from any profession with a degree in any discipline are eligible to participate in the fellowship program.

Candidates with excellent academic and professional track records can apply for the next batch in June 2021 through the Azim Premji Foundation portal. Fellows are selected through 5 stages.

The Fellowship is a one-year program, based on the candidate's performance and interest they can continue working with the foundation. More than 80 percent fellows from the previous batches have decided to continue their working practice with Azim Premji Foundation.

Once a candidate successfully completes his or her one-year fellowship program, they will be felicitated with a certificate issued by the foundation. Those who have attempted written the test before 2021 and appeared for the interview before 2020 are eligible to apply for the upcoming batch.

Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship Eligibility Criteria:

Details regarding the fellowship eligibilities are given below:

  • The applicant must be below 35 years old.
  • Candidate should be proficient in English.
  • Degree in any stream is the minimum education qualification to be an Azim Premji Foundation Fellow.
  • Working professionals must have a work experience of 4 to 10 years.
  • The applicant must be proficient in any one of the following regional languages.
  1. Hindi
  2. Tamil
  3. Telugu
  4. Kannada
  • He/ she should be willing to travel within the district and ready to work anywhere in the district they are assigned to work.

Note: It is not compulsory to have experience in the social sector. The fellowship program requires people with a deep commitment to social change and they should contribute at the grassroots.

Azim Premji Fellowship Rewards and Benefits:

Selected fellows will receive the mentioned values and benefits during the one-year fellowship program:

  • A monthly salary of INR 35,000 will be given to each fellow (Statutory deductions and taxes will apply under this scheme)
  • Health insurance, life insurance, and accident insurance shall be covered for all candidates.
  • Housing deposit assistance and relocation allowances will be granted. This allowance is disbursed as per the organizational policy.
  • Fellows can continue working with the foundation after the one-year program based on their performance and interest.
  • Fellows will receive a certificate upon the one-year successful completion of the program.
  • One week of accommodation will be provided to each candidate once they move to the block location.

Azim Premji Fellowship Application Process:

Eligible applicants will have to complete the application form online. Applications can be done through the Azim Premji Fellowship portal:

  1. Visit the fellowship program website.
  2. Get access to the application form.
  3. Fill up all the necessary details.
  4. Upload all the requested documents.
  5. Submit the fully updated CV.
  6. Enter the date and location for the written test.
  7. Complete the application and submit.

Note: Candidates will receive an e-mail regarding the status of their application within three weeks from the date of application submission.

Selection Process for Azim Premji Fellowship:

Applicants will go through different stages under the fellowship selection process. The step by step process of selection is given below:

Step 1: Online Application

  • Eligible candidates are required to complete the online application form.
  • Once the application form is submitted, candidates will receive a reference number.
  • Make note of the reference number for further communication.

Step 2: Screening

  • The candidate will have to fill up a detailed application form in case the application is shortlisted at the first stage.
  • Once the detailed application is received, it will be evaluated.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be called for written test.

Note: Candidate shall be notified in case the application is not shortlisted.

Step 3: Written Test

  • Selected applicants will receive an admit card for the written test.
  • The candidate will be scheduled for examination on the basis of test center and date preference.
  • Fellowship program management may use discretion subjected to logistical reasons.
  • It is compulsory to carry admit card copy and a valid government id proof.
  • Post- written test, selected applicants will be asked to produce a Statement of Purpose (SOP).
  • An e-mail will be sent asking for SOP with a deadline.
  • The written test will cover geographical awareness, socio-economic issues, descriptive writing, reading comprehension, and analytical ability.
  • There will be descriptive and multiple-choice questions with a test duration of 120 minutes.

Step 4: Presentation and Interviews

  • After the successful completion of the written test and the submission of SOP, the applicant shall be called for an interview.
  • During the interview, the candidate should make a 10 to 15-minute presentation to the interview panel.
  1. The presentation can be on any social issue that concerns the individual.
  2. Candidate can use PPT/ chart paper or any other medium to make the presentation.
  • Following a discussion, if the applicant gets shortlisted they will go to the final interview round.

Step 5: Final Announcement and Offer

  • After the completion of the final round of interview, within 15 days the final shortlisted fellows shall be announced.
  • The result will be communicated to each fellow via e-mail.
  • The offer process will take two more weeks after the final list announcement.
  • After the successful completion of the process, fellows shall receive an offer letter soft copy through e-mail and hard copy will be given at the time of joining.

Note: Applicants are requested to provide a valid phone number and mail id while applying and also candidates are advised to check their mails on a regular basis as all the communications shall be taken over e-mail.

Post Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship:

  • Candidates can continue working with the foundation even after the fellowship program.
  • More than 80 percent of fellows are decided to stay back and work with the foundation from previous batches.
  • All have been placed in one of the district institutes of the Azim Premji Foundation.
  • Many others are still working for not-for-profit or similar ways while pursuing a corporate career.

Terms and Conditions for Azim Premji Fellowship:

The terms and conditions to be followed during the fellowship are:

  • In case a candidate wishes to discontinue the fellowship for one year, they can leave the program after serving one month notice period.
  • Fellows will get 15 days of leave per year and 1.25 days per month.
  • One week's induction program will be given to each fellow. Also, a mentor provided to each candidate will support and guide them throughout the program.
  • The work location of the fellows will be in one of the mentioned States or Union Territory (Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Puducherry).
