GATE 2023 Mechanical Exam Paper Analysis

GATE 2023 Mechanical paper analysis was based on students' reactions and reviews after the exam was over on February 4, 2023, in the afternoon session. The paper analysis provides information about the exam's difficulty level, the types of questions asked, and so on. GATE 2022 Mechanical Exam Paper Analysis

The GATE examination was conducted in February 2022. The Mechanical Engineering paper was somewhere between moderate to tough. A detailed GATE Mechanical Engineering exam analysis is as follows:

• As we have noticed, the ME 2022 paper was hard compared to the last five years. 
• Most of the questions were form manufacturing, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and thermal science as it carries more weight.
• The questions from general aptitude and engineering mathematics was easier than the rest. Additionally, more numerical questions were there than theory.

GATE 2021 Mechanical Exam Paper Analysis

GATE ME took place on February 14, 2021, in 2 slots. There were approx. 60 questions that included both: - Numerical Answer Types and Multiple-Choice Questions. There were in total 25 numerical questions. The paper in total was 100 marks. The candidates were given a time of 3 hours to attempt the paper.

• The difficulty level of the paper was moderate to tough. Some students claimed that it was the toughest paper that GATE has given in the last 5 years
• There were almost 30+ numerical answer types. The paper was more inclined towards the numerical than the theory. It was an application-based paper
• Manufacturing and thermodynamics had the maximum weightage
• The general aptitude and Mathematics sections were comparatively easier than the subject questions
• Students also claimed that this year’s paper was lengthier

GATE Mechanical Exam 2021 Marking Scheme

The GATE subject-wise weightage analysis of the mechanical exam can help you understand the marking scheme for the GATE Exam. The marking scheme for GATE 2021 varies from paper to paper and between the subjects. There are 25 subjects with 65 questions valued at 100 marks. Take a look at the details below:

• General Aptitude consists of 5 questions valued at 2 marks each and 5 questions of 1 mark as well.
• The Engineering Mathematics papers are coded with AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF, and XE.
• Subject knowledge consists of 25 questions valued at 2 marks and 20 questions valued at 1 mark each.
• The paper codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, and XL include General Aptitude which had covered 15% of the total marks. The remaining 85% were questions within the subject matter of the paper.
• Negative marking: ⅓ marks are deducted for every incorrect answer valued at 1 mark and ⅔ is deducted for incorrect answers valued at 2 marks.

GATE 2020 Mechanical Exam Paper Analysis

In 2020, GATE Mechanical Exam 2020 was conducted in two sessions. The first session was conducted between 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and the second session was conducted around 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. There were 65 questions in total. Negative Marking was also there in both MCQ and NAT. 

• The difficulty level of the paper was moderate to tough 
• Students claimed the difficulty level of the paper was pretty challenging for them as the paper was focused on the application-based questions.
• Students also claimed that they had a lengthy paper to attend as it was focused on analytical and logical questioning.

GATE Mechanical Paper Difficulty

The GATE mechanical exam 2020 duration was three hours in the first shift and also three hours in the second. The second shift was held from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. There were 65 MCQs and the exam paper was for 100 marks in total.

• As per the students who appeared for the exam, it was of moderate difficulty.
• Candidates were happy about the General Aptitude section being easy but Mathematics was difficult.
• Conceptual questions were asked from design topics and 10 marks were from Fluid Mechanics.
• Numerical Ability had over 20 questions and they were extremely lengthy.
• A few questions from vibration topics had appeared which were a little tricky.
• Trusses, Forming, Convention, Metrology, and Radiation questions were also asked on the question paper.

The afternoon session was equally difficult but had questions appearing from Thermodynamics and Manufacturing.

GATE 2019 Mechanical Exam Paper Analysis

GATE Mechanical Exam 2019 was conducted in two slots i.e. Forenoon and Afternoon slots. There were 65 questions and the maximum mark that a student can obtain is 100. The total time given to attempt the paper was 3 hours. The following are the highlights of the 2019 Mechanical Exam.

• The difficulty level of the paper was moderate to tough 
• The topics which had the most weightage were from Thermodynamics and Manufacturing
