GATE 2026 Key Changes

Those planning to appear for the GATE exam must be aware of the latest changes made in the previous year. Here are a few notable changes that candidates will witness in the GATE 2026 examination.

• The authorities have updated the exam fee for GATE 2026. For SC/ST/female candidates, the fee for the regular period is INR 1000, and for all other candidates, it is INR 2000. 
• A new optional paper, Energy Science (XE-I), has been added to the Engineering Sciences (XE) section.
• For GATE 2026, no test centres will be present outside India. 
• The GATE eligibility criteria have been releaxed, allowing students in their third year to appear for the exam
• New combinations for the optional second paper will be available for candidates applying for two papers.

GATE 2026 Application Form

The GATE 2026 Application Form will be released by IISc Bangalore on Aug 30, 2023. Moreover, candidates should submit their GATE application forms by Sept 29, 2023. Here is the complete registration process for candidates’ reference.

• Initial Registration: First of all, candidates need to register through the GOAPS portal using the registration link of GATE 2026. Once the registration is successful, they will be allotted a unique enrollment ID.
• Filling out the Application Form: After the registration is done, candidates have to fill out the GATE 2026 application form. They must provide their personal details, contact information, academic details, exam centre details, etc.
• Uploading Necessary Documents: Aspirants also have to upload their signatures, photographs, and other essential documents in the requisite specifications. 
• Payment of Application Fee: The next step in the application process for GATE 2026 is application fee payment in online mode. 
• Submission of Application Form: Lastly, candidates must verify all the details and submit their GATE application form. Candidates can check their application status by logging into the GOAPS portal.
