What is the Canara Bank Scholarship?

The University Grants Commission (UGC) in association with Canara Bank has formed the Canara Bank Scholarship and created a portal -Scholar's Corner for disbursement of scholarships and grants to Post Graduates. Scholar's Corner is also integrated with the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) through which the scholarships are distributed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This Scholarship disbursal system is as per UGC's regulations to provide transparent and direct fund transfer.

There are various schemes provided under the Canara Bank Scholarship. All the important details are tabulated below as per the different schemes and candidates are advised to go through each and every scheme properly before applying.

Canara Bank Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

The Canara Bank Scholarship provides several schemes for the benefit of students. This scholarship is only for students who are citizens of India. There are schemes particularly for Post Graduates who are interested to take up research as a career. The criteria required to apply for scholarship schemes are listed below:

Dr. S Radhakrishnan Postdoctoral Fellowship in Humanities & Social Science

  • Candidate should be into full-time research and unemployed.
  • He/ she should be less than 35 years of age with a relaxation of 5 years for Reserved category such as SC/ ST/ OBC/ Women/ PWD (Persons with Disabilities).
  • The applicant should have scored a minimum of 55% marks for UG level and 60% marks for PG level with the relaxation of 5% marks for the reserved category.

2.

National Fellowship for students of Other Backward Classes (OBC)

  • Candidate should be a postgraduate belonging to the OBC and unemployed.
  • The annual family income of the applicant should not exceed 6 lakhs per annum.
  • Candidate should be registered for M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees (full-time) in Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology.

3.

Kothari Fellowship

  • Candidate should be unemployed and must be less than 35 years of age (up to 3, 5 and 10 years relaxation given to OBC, SC/ ST/ Women and physically handicapped respectively).
  • Applicant should be a Ph.D. degree holder under the science faculty preferably with published research work to their credit.

NET-JRF Fellowship

  • Candidate should be 30 years or younger (Relaxation of 3 and 5 years given to OBC and SC/ ST/ PWD/ Female candidates respectively.
  • Applicant must hold a master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (5% marks relaxation given to reserved candidates).

5.

Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child

  • The applicant must be a single girl child with no siblings.
  • She should not be more than 30 years of age.
  • Candidate should be enrolled in the 1st year of a master's course from any recognized university or post-graduate college.

6.

Maulana Azad National Fellowship-Minority

  • Candidate should belong to a minority community such as Muslim, Parsi, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, and Christian.
  • He/ she should be registered for a full-time Ph.D./ MPhil with a minimum score of 55% in the post-graduation level.
  • Candidate should have cleared the CBSE/ NTA-UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET examination.

7.

Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for SC

  • Applicant should be a Post Graduate belonging to the SC/ ST.
  • He/ she should get registered for MPhil/Ph.D. in less than 2 years from the date of receipt of the award letter.

8.

Ishan Uday-Special Scholarship Scheme for North Eastern Region

  • Candidate should belong to the North East Region(NER).
  • He/ she should have passed the Class 12 or equivalent exam from a recognized board within the NER.
  • The applicant should be a 1st-year student in any UG course from any recognized College/ University.
  • The family income of the candidate should not exceed Rs 4.5 lakh per annum.

Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship for Research in Social Sciences

  • The applicant must be a single girl child with no siblings.
  • Should be registered for a full-time Ph.D. in social sciences from any recognized University/ College.
  • Candidate should be 40 years old or younger with Relaxation of 5 years given to candidates of reserved categories such as SC/ ST/ OBC and PWD.

10.

Emeritus Fellowship

  • Applicant should be an experienced and highly qualified superannuated teacher in a recognized University/ Institution.
  • He/ she should have published high-quality research work in his/ her service career.

11.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship to Women Candidates

  • Women candidates who hold a Ph.D. degree and are unemployed can apply.
  • She should be not more than 55 years of age (Relaxation of 5 years is given to reserved categories such as SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD)
  • Candidates under the General category should have scored a minimum of 55% marks at UG level and 60% at PG level.
  • Candidates under the Reserved category such as SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD should have scored a minimum of 50% marks at UG level and 55% marks at PG level.

12.

PG Scholarship for University Rank holders

  • Candidate should be 1st/ 2nd rank holder at UG level with a minimum 60% score.
  • He/ she should be enrolled in a full-time Master's degree from a recognized University/ Institution.
  • The applicant should be less than 30 years old.

13.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship for SC & ST

  • Unemployed Ph.D. candidates with published research work.
  • The age limit for male candidates is 50 years and for female candidates, it is 55 years.
  • SC/ ST candidates with a 50% score at UG level and 55% score at PG level can apply.

14.

PG Scholarship for Professional courses for SC/ ST

  • Applicant pursuing 1st year of PG course from any recognized College/ University.
  • He/ she should belong to SC/ ST.

15.

BSR Fellowships in Sciences

  • Applicant must belong to  Departments of Sciences, Bio-Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering Sciences of eligible universities.
  • Meritorious students interested in advanced studies and research leading to a Ph.D. degree in the field of Science can apply for the scholarship.

16.

UGC-BSR Faculty Fellowship Scheme

  • Candidates serving posts of readers or higher in the Science and Technology departments.
  • Applicants should have at least 15 research articles published in reputed journals.
  • Applicant should have successfully supervised the Ph.D. dissertation of 15 (in Basic sciences) and 10 (in Engineering and Technology) full-time candidates, 5 of who received their degree in the past 10 years.
  • Candidates should have handled at least 3 types of research projects in the last 10 years. 

17.

PG Scholarship for M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Pharma to GATE/ GPAT qualified candidates

  • The candidate should have a valid GATE/ GPAT score.
  • Applicant should be admitted to AICTE approved courses like  M.E/ M.Pharm/ M.Tech in any AICTE approved institution. 

Canara Bank Scholarship Rewards and Benefits:

The main benefit of the Canara Bank Scholarship is that it includes schemes even for the economically weak students such as SC/ ST/ OBC etc. There are special benefits for students with disabilities under certain schemes. All the schemes with their respective benefits have been listed below:
