JEE Advanced Selection Procedure 2024
JEE Advanced selection procedure is done by strictly following some rules and regulations specified by the official authorities. A detailed discussion of the same is mentioned below.
1. Performance in JEE Mains
Candidates who score in the top 2.5 lahks will only be able to participate in the JEE Advanced. The cutoffs are high as the students now score parallel to the full marks with 100 percentile marks. All top IITs admits candidates based on their JEE Advanced performance. Candidates must also be aware of the JEE Advanced cutoff marks and merit list.
2 Qualification Criteria/ Age Criteria
There are some additional qualification criteria described in the JEE Advanced selection procedure. The criteria are as follows:
- Each candidate must have qualified in their Class XII examination in the same year of JEE Advanced they are attempting.
- They must also secure a minimum aggregate in their Class XII examination, which varies yearly.
- In addition to the basic qualification criteria, candidates must meet the age limit criteria set by the exam conducting body. Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1998. There is 5 years age relaxation for candidates from reserved category.

3. Application Process for JEE Advanced
Qualified candidates must then register themselves online on the official website of JEE Advanced and fill out their application form. The steps to fill up the JEE Advanced application form is as follows:
- Candidates must visit the official website of JEE Advanced.
- Search and select the JEE Advanced 2024 application form link.
- Next, they must register themselves, and the login credentials will be sent to them via mail.
- Once they get the login details, they must fill out the application form.
- Additionally, they must enter accurate personal information such as name, date of birth, address, telephone number, email address, and educational qualification details.
- Once done, they must pay the application fee online or through a demand draft or bank challan.
- Lastly, once all the processes are completed, they must submit the form and take a printout.
NOTE: The form must then be submitted before the stipulated deadline. Candidates must also submit scanned copies of all relevant documents for registration.
4. Exam Pattern of JEE Advanced
The JEE Advanced Exam Pattern comprises two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2 – both of which are compulsory. Each paper will be conducted for 3 hours, with a negative marking for each incorrect answer.
5. Cutoff Marks for JEE Advanced
The cutoff mark is the minimum score candidates need to qualify to reserve seats for themselves into top institutes and IITs. Cutoff marks vary from college to college. Candidates who have appeared for JEE Advanced must secure a score that meets or exceeds the cutoff mark for their particular choices of an institute or stream to be eligible for admission.
6. Publication of JEE Advanced Merit List
Upon the completion of the exam, a merit list is prepared by the examination conducting body. The merit list is prepared based on the marks secured by each candidate, along with other relevant criteria such as cutoff marks, reservation policies, etc. Candidates who have successfully secured a rank on the merit list are eligible for admission.
7. JEE Advanced Counselling Process
Once the merit list has been finalized, qualified candidates must then go through a counselling process. JEE Advanced Counselling is conducted online by the joint seat allocation authority (JoSAA). The steps to register for counselling are as follows:
- Candidates must visit the official website.
- Find the counselling registration link and click on it.
- During the counselling registration, candidates can select their preferred course and college based on their choice and ranks secured.
- Once done, they have to pay the specified counselling registration fee.
After assigning seats to candidates, the admission process can begin.
8. JEE Advanced Seat Allocation Procedure
Once candidates have completed the counselling process, they will be allocated seats in their preferred colleges and courses based on their ranks in JEE Advanced. Seat allotment depends on several factors:
