The West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation provides financial aid to empower students from minority communities such as Muslims, Christians, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists, and Sikhs. The primary goal of the WBMDFC scholarship is to facilitate the socio-economic and educational mobility of the students belonging to the West Bengal state.

The WBMDFC provides pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, economic welfare schemes, coaching, mass awareness and career guidance to backward-class students. The last date to apply for the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means scholarship under the WBMDFC scholarship scheme is March 31, 2024.

WBMDFC Scholarship Program List

The different schemes offered under the WBMDFC scholarship are:

WBMDFC Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

The WBMDFC scholarship is for the students of West Bengal belonging to minority communities such as Muslims, Christians, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists, and Sikhs. The detailed eligibility criteria are given below:

West Bengal Pre-matric Scholarship

  • Students should be studying in classes 1-10.
  • They should be studying in a school/ institution affiliated with the state/central government.
  • The candidate should have scored at least 50% marks or equivalent grades in the last qualifying examination.
  • The annual family income of the applicant should not exceed INR 2,00,000 from all sources.
  • Students studying outside West Bengal are not eligible to apply for the pre-matric scholarship.

West Bengal Post-matric Scholarship

  • Students should be pursuing studies from the Class 11- PhD level.
  • They should be studying in a school/institution affiliated with the state/central government.
  • The candidate should have scored at least 50% marks or equivalent grades in the last qualifying examination.
  • The annual family income of the applicant should not exceed INR 2,00,000 from all sources.
  • Students studying outside West Bengal are not eligible to apply for the post-matric scholarship.

West Bengal Merit-cum-Means Scholarship

  • The candidate should be pursuing professional/ technical courses at graduation/ post-graduation level.
  • They should have secured admission in any professional course to be eligible.
  • The applicant should have scored at least 50% marks in the last higher secondary/ graduation level exam.
  • The annual family income of the candidate should not exceed INR 2,50,000 from all sources.
  • The students who are the residents of West Bengal and pursuing education at any of the listed institutions outside West Bengal are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

West Bengal Talent Support Stipend

  • The student should have passed the last qualifying examination with less than 50% marks.
  • The candidate should be pursuing studies from Class 11- PhD level (except professional and technical courses).
  • The annual family income of the applicant should not exceed INR 2,00,000 from all sources.

5.

Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship for Minorities

  • The candidate should be pursuing studies from Class 11 to postgraduate level in regular courses including Diploma/Polytechnic, Diploma in Pharmacy.
  • The applicant should be pursuing education from a recognized institution in West Bengal.
  • They should have passed out from recognized institutions affiliated/accredited to WBBSE/WBCHSE/WBBME or any other board/university situated in West Bengal.
  •  The annual family income of the applicant should not exceed INR 2,50,000 from all sources.
  • For higher secondary/ graduate level, the students should have scored a minimum of 75% marks in the last qualifying examination.
  • For the postgraduate level, the students pursuing Honors subject should have scored at least 53% at graduation level.
  • For the engineering graduate level, the students should have scored at least 55% marks in the last qualifying examination.
  • Students pursuing K3 Kanyashree should have scored at 43% in the last qualifying examination.

6.

West Bengal Term Loan Scheme

  • The annual family income of rural area applicants should not exceed INR 98,000.
  • The annual family income of urban area applicants should not exceed INR 1,20,000.
  • The candidates having training and experience for the business for which he/she is applying get preference over others.
  • The applicant should have a savings bank account and should be between 18-50 years of age.
  • Guarantors are required for applications more than INR 40,000.
  • A taxpayer or professionally qualified person (like Doctor/Engineer) is eligible for a loan amount of INR 40,001-50,000.
  • A Government/Semi-Government employee/ teacher or a good beneficiary of WBMDFC is eligible for a loan amount exceeding INR 50,000.

7.

West Bengal Micro Finance (Direct to SHGs)

  • Self-help groups having 10-20 minority women can apply for a loan under this scheme.
  • 60% of members of the Self-help groups should belong to the minority community.
  • The annual family income of rural area applicants should not exceed INR 98,000.
  • The annual family income of urban area applicants should not exceed INR 1,20,000.

8.

West Bengal Minority Women Empowerment Program

  • Women applicants belonging to the minority community are eligible to apply.

9.

West Bengal Educational Loan

  • The candidate should be between 16-32 years of age.
  • The annual family income of rural area applicants should not exceed INR 98,000.
  • The annual family income of urban area applicants should not exceed INR 1,20,000.

WBMDFC Scholarship Rewards and Benefits

The selected minority community students receive the scholarship amount through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), which ensures complete transparency in the scholarship disbursal process. The scholarship benefits availed by the students at different education levels are listed below:

3.

Class 11/ 12

  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 7700 and maintenance allowance of INR 2500 for day scholars.
  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 7700 and maintenance allowance of INR 4200 for hostellers.

4.

Class 11/ 12 (Technical and Vocational courses)

  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 11000 and maintenance allowance of INR 2500 for day scholars.
  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 11000 and maintenance allowance of INR 4200 for hostellers.

5.

UG/ PG level

  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 3300and maintenance allowance of INR 3300 for day scholars.
  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 3300 and maintenance allowance of INR 6300 for hostellers.

6.

MPhil

  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 3300 and maintenance allowance of INR 6000 for day scholars.
  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 3300 and maintenance allowance of INR 13200 for hostellers.

7.

Merit cum Mean

  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 22000 and maintenance allowance of INR 5500 for day scholars.
  • Admission and tuition fee of INR 22000 and maintenance allowance of INR 11000 for hostellers.

West Bengal Term Loan Scheme Benefits

  • Loan amount of up to INR 5,00,000 to be repaid at an interest of 6% in 12 or 20 quarterly installments in 3 or 5 years.

West Bengal Micro Finance (Direct to SHGs) Benefits

  • Loan of up to INR 1,00,000 to each member of the Self-help groups.
  • To be repaid at 7% per annum interest rate in 24 months.

West Bengal Minority Women Empowerment Program Benefits

  • Loan is given to women for income-generating activity or small scale business at a 3% interest rate.
  • Subsidy of 50% of the loan amount provided a maximum amount of INR 15,000 is given to each beneficiary.

West Bengal Educational Loan Benefits

  • Education loan of up to INR 20,00,000 for pursuing study within the country.
  • Education loan of up to INR 30,00,000 for pursuing study outside the country.
  • To be repaid at a 3% interest rate in installments after 6 months of course completion or employment, whichever is earlier.

WBMDFC Scholarship Application Process

Different schemes under the WBMDFC scholarship have different application procedures. The scholarship application process for the different schemes is explained below:

Application Process for West Bengal Term Loan Scheme

  • The application form should be collected from the Minority Office located in the Office of the District Magistrate, Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) or Block Development Officer (BDO).

Application Process for West Bengal Micro Finance (Direct to SHGs) and West Bengal Minority Women Empowerment Program

  • The application form should be submitted to the Corporation in the prescribed format.
  • For any queries about the application, the concerned District Office should be contacted.
  • An application can be submitted at any time of the year.

Application Process for West Bengal Educational Loan

  • Interested applicants should apply online through the WBMDFC portal.

Application Process for all other scholarships

  • Interested applicants have to visit the WBMDFC Scholarship official website.
  • Then click on ‘New Registration’ on the homepage for registration as a new user.
  • Fill in all the details under the ‘Student Information’ and ‘Scheme Eligibility’ sections.
  • The applicant should note down the User ID and check the Email Id/ Mobile number for getting the password.
  • Next log in to the website under ‘Student Log-In’ with the user ID and password generated.
  • The next step is to change the password (for security purposes).
  • The applicant should fill in the Basic Information, Academic Information, and Bank account details and should verify the same.
  • Preview the entire application form details and should click on the ‘Final Submit’ button to do the final submission.
  • Lastly take a printout of the submitted application and submit it to the respective institute along with a copy of the bank passbook with account number and IFSC code.

WBMDFC Scholarship Documents Required

The documents that should be submitted along with the WBMDFC scholarship application form are listed below:

  • Minority certificate issued by the appropriate authority
  • Domicile certificate
  • Marks sheet of the qualifying examinations
  • Family Income certificate
  • Copy of aadhar card
  • Copy of bank passbook with account number and IFSC code
  • Recent passport size photograph
