WB Scholarship List 

The West Bengal government and the government and private organisations provide several WB scholarship schemes to students belonging to SC/ST, OBC and minorities. However, the West Bengal scholarships and the scholarship amount will vary depending on the class levels. The list of WB scholarships are as follows:

Pre-Matric WB Scholarship 

The state government of West Bengal provides the pre-matric WB scholarships for students belonging to the SC, ST and minority categories. Therefore, students domiciled in West Bengal and studying classes I to X can apply to the pre-matric WB scholarships. However, the pre-matric WB scholarships for the SC/ ST students are available to candidates in classes IX, and X. Students studying in a school located outside West Bengal cannot avail of the pre-matric WB scholarships. 

Eligibility Criteria 

The details of the pre-matric WB scholarships eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • The applicants should be bonafide residents of West Bengal.
  • They should study in a recognised school or institution.
  • The candidates should have secured at least 50% (or equivalent grade) in the previous qualifying examination except for the students of class I.
  • The family income should exceed INR 2,00,000 per annum.
  • For SC/ST Students
    • The candidates studying classes IX and X can apply to the pre-matric WB scholarships.
    • They should belong to the SC/ST category.
  • For Minority Students
    • The students from classes I to X can apply to the pre-matric WB scholarships.
    • They should belong to the minority communities such as Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Sikh.

Rewards 

The West Bengal government will offer up to INR 11,000 to the selected students. The reward details of the pre-matric WB scholarships are as follows:

  • The students of the SC/ST category will receive the following WB scholarship amount each month for ten months in a year:
    • Hostellers - INR 750
    • Day scholars - INR 150
  • Additionally, the government will pay the following Adhoc grant to the students every year:
    • Hostellers - INR 1,000
    • Day scholars - INR 750

  • The proposed rate of pre-matric WB minority scholarship amount are as follows:

Post-Matric WB Scholarships 

The backward classes welfare department and the minority affairs and madrasah education department provide the post-matric WB scholarships for SC/ST, OBC and minority categories. Students from class XI to the PhD level can avail benefits of the post-matric WB scholarships. The selected candidates will receive up to INR 16,500 per annum. Eligibility Criteria 

The OBC, ST/ST and minority candidates of West Bengal should fulfil the following WB scholarship eligibility criteria:

  • The candidates should be domiciled in West Bengal.
  • They should be in class XI or above.
  • The candidates should study in an institution recognised by the central or state government.
  • They should secure 50% marks (or an equivalent grade) to obtain the benefits of the post-matric WB scholarships.
  • Students should not be studying in institutions located outside West Bengal.
  • For SC/ST Students
    • The students should belong to the SC/ST category.
    • Their family income should not exceed INR 2,50,000 per annum.
  • For OBC Students
    • The applicants should belong to the OBC category.
    • The student's family income should not be more than INR 1,00,000 per annum.
  • For Minority Category
    • Students should belong to the minority communities (Muslim, Christian, Parsi, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain).
    • Their annual family income should not exceed INR 2,00,000 from all sources.

Merit-cum-Means WB Scholarship for Technical and Professional Courses 

The state government of West Bengal offers merit-cum-means WB scholarships to students pursuing technical and professional courses. Candidates studying in listed institutions located outside Went Bengal can also apply to this WB scholarship scheme. They can obtain the list of eligible institutions on the official West Bengal minorities' development and finance corporation website. 

Eligibility Criteria 

The students should fulfil the following requirements to apply for the merit-cum-means WB scholarship 2023:

  • The candidates should be permanent residents of West Bengal.
  • They should belong to the minority community.
  • They should have enrolled in a technical or professional course such as medicine, engineering, law, management, CA, etc.
  • The students should obtain at least 50% marks in the Class XII or graduation exam.

Rewards 

The selected students will receive the WB scholarship amount for ten months in an academic year. The rewards are as follows:

  • The hostellers will receive a total of INR 33,000 per annum in the following manner:
    • Admission and tuition fee - INR 22,000
    • Maintenance allowance - INR 11,000
  • The day scholars will receive a total of INR 27,500 per annum in the following manner:
    • Admission and tuition fee - INR 22,000
    • Maintenance allowance - INR 5,500
  • Additionally, the government will reimburse the full course fee for the eligible institutions.

Important Date 

Interested students should apply for the merit-cum-means scholarship by June 7, 2023.

Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means WB Minority Scholarship 

West Bengal students from minority communities and studying class XI or higher can apply to the Swami Vivekananda merit-cum-means WB scholarship. The government will award up to INR 8,000 per month to the selected students. The WB scholarship amount for the Swami Vivekananda merit-cum-means scholarship will vary according to the class levels.

Eligibility Criteria 

The WB scholarship eligibility criteria of Swami Vivekananda merit-cum-means WB minority scholarship are as follows:

  • The students should be bonafide residents of West Bengal.
  • They should be studying class XI or higher grades.
  • They should have cleared one of the following board exams:
    • West Bengal board of secondary education
    • West Bengal Council of higher secondary education
    • West Bengal Madrasah education board
    • Other recognised boards by the state
  • Students pursuing higher secondary level, polytechnic or bachelor's degree should have obtained at least 75% marks in the previous exam.
  • Those pursuing a masters degree should secure a minimum of 55% marks in the Honours subject.
  • Applicants studying post-graduation in engineering should have obtained a minimum of 55% marks in bachelor in engineering.
  • The candidate should either be a Christian, Muslim, Jain, Buddhist, Parsee or Sikh.
  • The students should be studying in institutions located in West Bengal.
  • The applicants should have cleared the exams in the current year.
  • Their annual family income should not be more than INR 2,50,000.

The government will reward the students based on their academic merit and economic background. The selected candidates for the Swami Vivekananda merit-cum-means West Bengal scholarship will receive the following benefit:

  • The government will grant them a WB scholarship amount ranging from INR 12,000 to 60,000 per annum.

Post-Matric Stipend Under Talent Support Programme (TSP) 

The West Bengal state government will grant stipends to students pursuing the post-matric level of education through the talent support programme. Therefore, students from class XI are eligible to apply to this WB scholarship 2023. However, it will not cover technical and professional courses.

The students applying for the post-matric stipend under the talent support programme should fulfil the following requirements:

  • The applicants should be domiciled in West Bengal and should belong to the minority community.
  • Students from class XI to PhD level (except technical and professional courses) can apply to this WB scholarship 2021 scheme.

  • Students studying through distance education are not eligible.
  • They should have obtained at least 50% marks in the previous qualifying examination.
  • Their family income should not exceed INR 2,00,000 per annum.

  • The selected students will receive a post-matric scholarship stipend ranging from INR 2,550 to INR 4,900 per annum.

G P Birla Scholarship 

The G P Birla educational foundation provides the G P Birla scholarship to West Bengal students who have cleared the class XII examination. Candidates pursuing a degree in science, arts, commerce, medicine, engineering, architecture, etc., can apply to this West Bengal scholarship 2023. The providers will award over 100 students every year. 

Eligibility Criteria

The students applying for the G P Birla scholarship should fulfil the following requirements:

  • The candidates should be West Bengal domiciles.They should have cleared the state board class XII exams with at least 80% marks.
  • Those who have completed their class XII from the central board should obtain a minimum of 85% marks.
  • Their family income should not exceed INR 3,00,000 per annum.
    • Note: However, the management will relax the income ceiling for candidates who have secured 95% (or more) in the state board and 97% (or more) in the central board.
  • They should be pursuing a course in arts, science, commerce, engineering, medicine, architecture, law chartered accountancy, cost accountancy and company secretaryship.

  • In addition, the students in the first year will receive INR 7,000 as a one time payment.

 Fullerton India Scholarship 

The Fullerton India scholarship offers financial aid to underprivileged West Bengal students from class IX to class XII. Fullerton India sponsors the scholarship as a part of the CSR programme. Besides West Bengal, the scholarship is also available to the students of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. 

Eligibility Criteria

How to Apply on the WBMDFC Portal? 

The West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (WBMDFC) portal provides WB scholarships for minority communities. The minority affairs and madrasah education department manages the website. It is user friendly even for people with disabilities. The West Bengal scholarship online application process are as follows: 

Step 1: The candidates should visit the official West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (WBMDFC) website.

Step 2: The first-time applicants should click on the new registration button available on the homepage.

Step 3: Next, they should select the district where their institution is located.

The WB scholarships available on the Oasis portal are also known as Oasis scholarships. The backward classes welfare department and tribal development department provide scholarships for the SC, ST and OBC categories on the West Bengal scholarship portal. Students applying for the first time should complete the registration process to obtain the login credentials. After receiving the login credentials, they can effortlessly use the Oasis scholarship.
