OBC Scholarships 2024: Last Date, Eligibility, Rewards, Apply

The Government of India proposes OBC scholarships to those meritorious students who belong to the OBC category and struggle to continue their education due to a lack of financial resources. The scholarship scheme helps them with an OBC scholarship amount of up to INR 11,70,000 to pursue further education. 

To apply for the OBC scholarships 2024, the eligible applicants must satisfy the required criteria and fill in the application form within the stipulated deadline. Government OBC scholarships such as the Central Sector Scheme of National Overseas, ONGC scholarship, OBC Pre-Matric scholarship, and Post-Matric OBC scholarship are available for students. The OBC scholarships 2023-24 last date is January 31, 2024.

List of OBC Scholarships 2023-24

The OBC scholarships are funded by the Central/State government and other private organizations in India. Some of the top OBC scholarships available in India are mentioned below.

National Fellowship for OBC

The National Fellowship for OBC was initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the Government of India, to financially support OBC category students who have already passed their postgraduate exams and want to pursue their higher studies. 

• The JRF students can avail of this scholarship for 2 years and even continue as SRF for the next 3 years if there is progress in their research work. 
• There is a reservation of 3% for PWD students.
• Students should register for full-time M.Phil./Ph.D. programs in Science, Humanities, Social Science, or Engineering & Technology from UGC-recognized colleges/institutions. 
• The worthy candidates can receive additional benefits such as HRA, medical leave, and a scholarship stipend. 
• The candidates who satisfy the OBC scholarship 2024 requirements and qualify for the scheme can get up to INR 35,000 per month.

Central Sector Scheme of National Overseas

The Central Sector Scheme of National Overseas is a scholarship scheme for candidates belonging to the OBC category. 

• This scheme applies to those candidates who have enrolled in a foreign institute or are willing to pursue higher education overseas in Engineering, Management, Agriculture Science, and Medicine. 
• The applicants selected for the OBC scholarship will be rewarded with USD 15,400. 

Last Date 

The last date to apply for the Central sector scheme is January 31, 2024.

ONGC Scholarship

ONGC scholarships are promoted by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) Foundation as a part of their corporate social responsibility toward society. 

• Indian citizens belonging to the SC/ ST, OBC, and weaker sections of the society pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees can apply for this ST SC OBC scholarship.
• The applicants should study in their first year of BE, MBBS, MBA, or Masters in Geology/Geophysics. 
• The selected candidates can be rewarded up to INR 48,000 per annum.

Last Date 

The deadline to apply for ONGC scholarships is November 30, 2024 (tentatively).

OBC Pre-Matric Scholarship

The OBC pre-matric scholarships were initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Government of India, and are available to OBC category students. 

• Students studying in classes 1 to 10 can apply for this scholarship scheme. 
• The selected applicants can receive a full monthly OBC scholarship of INR 1,000.

Post-Matric OBC Scholarship

Post-matric OBC scholarships are initiated by the state government of India and union territories. The OBC scholarship enables meritorious candidates to complete their education and aids them with the required monetary assistance.

• The scholarship for the OBC category can be availed by deserving students who are domiciled in whichever state they belong to. 
• The scholarship scheme covers the educational expenses and provides an OBC scholarship amount of INR 750.

Merit Scholarships for OBC

The Merit scholarships for OBC were initiated by the Department of the Welfare of SC/ ST/ OBC/ Minorities, Delhi. Some vital instructions for the OBC scholarship scheme are provided below for student's reference.

• Under the SC OBC scholarship, students from classes 6th to 12th and those studying in colleges or technical institutes are offered scholarships based on merit. 
• The candidates who are accepted for the OBC scholarship must have an annual family income of INR 2,00,000 
• They should have a score of 60% in class 12th board examinations. 
• The candidates pursuing their academic careers in technical courses can get up to INR 1,620 per month.
•  Other OBC students can get up to INR 4,500 per annum upon selection.

Application Process for OBC Scholarships 2023-24

Step 4: Enter the login credentials provided and enter valid details in the OBC scholarship 2024 application form.

Step 5: Attach the scanned copies of all the required documents in the prescribed formats.

Step 6: Lastly, submit the application form and take a printout for future reference.
