The NIFT Entrance Exam is the only gateway to undergraduate and postgraduate design programmes at top government and private institutions in India. In 2025, a total of 19 NIFT campuses and several private design colleges will participate in the admission process through the NIFT entrance exam. This includes institutes like Lovely Professional University (LPU), UPES Dehradun, ISDI Mumbai, and others.

The NIFT Exam has already been conducted. Shortlisted candidates are now preparing for counselling and portfolio review. Admissions will be based on entrance exam scores, eligibility criteria, and seat availability. This page lists all NIFT participating colleges, their programme offerings, and related statistics from 2022 to 2025.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts a prestigious, all-India entrance examination for admission into its highly sought-after undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the fields of fashion, design, technology, and management.

Admission Process at NIFT Participating Institutes

Admission is conducted in two phases: a written entrance examination followed by a situation test or personal interview, depending on the program applied for by the candidate.

  1. Written Tests (CAT and GAT):
The first phase comprises two written examinations — the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT). These tests are designed to evaluate a candidate’s creativity, logical reasoning, design aptitude, and general knowledge.

  2. Situation Test or Personal Interview:
If you qualify for the written tests, you will be shortlisted for the second phase. Depending on the program applied for, this phase involves either a Situation Test (for design courses) — where candidates demonstrate their hands-on creativity and problem-solving skills — or a Personal Interview (for management or technology programs), which assesses communication skills, subject knowledge, and overall personality.

Merit is calculated using test scores, interview performance, and NIFT eligibility criteria. NIFT does not offer admission without an entrance exam performance. However, some private colleges may accept students with only portfolio-based assessments or previous design aptitude scores.

Final Note

The NIFT entrance exam continues to be one of the most important gateways for a career in fashion, design, and allied fields. The 2025 cycle includes a mix of legacy institutions and new campuses, each offering specialised programmes to match industry needs. With a total seat intake of nearly 5000 and a growing list of private institutions recognising NIFT scores, students now have more options than ever.

Those seeking admission should focus on their NIFT score, portfolio quality, and course preference to make the best use of available opportunities. Let the score decide the campus, but let the course decide the future.
