The NIFT cut off 2024 was released in 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 different rounds for different categories and campuses. The NIFT 2024 exam was held on Feb 5, 2024, while the cut off was released on May 14, 2024, for B.Des and on May 8, 2024, for M.Des programs, respectively. The detailed NIFT exam cut-off range has been shared below for your reference. As per previous trends, NIFT Delhi marked the highest cut-off for the Master of Fashion Management (MFM) program with a closing rank of 104 for the PwD category. While the NIFT cutoff for the Fashion Design course was between the range of 100-500.

You can also refer to the NIFT previous year cut-offs to get an idea of the expected opening and closing ranks for future exams. The cut-off is released round-wise as the admission is carried out based on the first and last round cut-offs, released by the respective institutes. Every year, the NIFT design cut-off is nearly the same; however, the difference is because of certain factors, such as the number of candidates taking the exam, the difficulty level of the paper, and the seat intake offered by each college.

The NIFT final cutoff is the result of data based on total applicants, difficulty level, seat availability, reservation rules, and performance trends. In the real world, this is a seat-allocation problem under dynamic constraints. What makes it tougher is variability. Cutoffs don’t just change year to year—they shift campus to campus, category to category, and specialization to specialization. One rank gets you into Fashion Design at NIFT Bhopal. That same rank may not even touch Fashion Communication at NIFT Delhi.

What We Found: Key Observations from the 2024 Data

Based on the NIFT cut-off 2024, the following observations are made. The future candidates are advised to go through them and jot them down for their reference.

  1. NIFT Delhi and Mumbai are still untouchable. If your rank is above 200, you’re not getting in for Fashion Design unless you're in a reserved category.
  2. Fashion Communication is the most competitive specialization across most campuses, often closing within the top 500 ranks.
  3. The lowest cutoff rank in B.FTech hit 2474 at NIFT Kolkata, showing a stark difference in competition across programs.
  4. Kolkata, Bhopal, and Kannur showed the widest variation between opening and closing ranks, suggesting diverse applicant performance.
  5. NIFT acceptance rate is still under 20%, and it’s not going up.

Seat Matrix: How Many Made It and Where?

For 2024, NIFT offered 5,215 total seats across 18 campuses. These are split as:

  • 4,324 All-India seats
  • 405 State Domicile seats
  • 470 NRI/Foreign seats

Programs covered include B.Des, B.F.Tech, MFM, M.Des, and M.F.Tech. The reservation matrix makes things more complicated, but necessary for balanced intake.

NIFT 2024 Seat Intake Breakdown

Seat intake is the number of seats offered by each college for different courses. The cut off is majorly affected by this. The details of the total seats offered in NIFT for different programs has been delineated below for your reference.

The number of seats in Fashion Communication and Fashion Design are relatively high, but demand still far outpaces supply—especially in top campuses.

NIFT Rank vs Campus 2024

There’s no fixed “good rank” for NIFT. It depends on course and campus. But based on 2024 data:

  • Under 200: NIFT Delhi, Mumbai (Fashion Design, Communication)
  • Under 500: NIFT Bangalore, Hyderabad (Most B.Des specializations)
  • Under 1000: NIFT Kolkata, Chennai (Accessory Design, Knitwear)
  • 1000–3000: Bhopal, Kangra, Shillong, Jodhpur (Less competitive programs)

If your Common Merit Rank (CMR) is above 4000, options become limited to niche courses or newer campuses like Srinagar or Raebareli.

NIFT Acceptance Rate Over the Years

Between 2015 and 2021, NIFT saw a consistent trend: rising applications, stable intake. This drove the acceptance rate down.

  • 2021–22: 20,242 applicants for 3,777 seats → 19% acceptance
  • 2019–20: 29,195 applicants for 3,692 seats → 13% acceptance
  • 2017–18: 29,000 applicants for 3,319 seats → 11% acceptance

These numbers confirm what we already know: getting in is hard. And it's not getting easier.

Conclusion

The NIFT 2024 Cutoff is not just a bunch of numbers. It is the result of shifting demand, complex seat allocation, and the ongoing race for a finite number of opportunities. If you are aiming for NIFT 2025, the numbers from 2024 should be your baseline. Not your goal—but your minimum. A good rank for NIFT shall be to score below 800. While an elite score shall be under 200.
