The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is a national-level exam conducted by all IIT-based institutes. UCEED 2022 was conducted on January 23, 2021, in 24 different cities, with the paper conducted in two forms; Paper A was conducted as a Computer-Based Test, while Paper B was conducted as a Paper-Based Test.
It’s important to mention that the exam had negative markings, so caution was advised for when answering the examination. UCEED 2022 Exam Analysis
UCEED 2022 was conducted on January 23, 2022. The paper was marked in between moderate to difficult. The exam was held in two parts. There were negative marking for incorrect answers in Part A. Hence the students needed to be cautious. It was suggested to skip the question if it is unknown.
Although their were no negative marking in Part B. 300 marks were allotted for both parts. MCQ and MSQ questions carried more weightage. The total number of questions in UCEED 2022 was 68. The weightage of questions in each part was–
- Part A: NATs (18), MSQs (18), and MCQs (32)
- Part B: Drawing (1).
The Numerical answer type (NAT) questions in the UCEED entrance exam 2022 were moderate but lengthy. The MCQs and MSQs were comparatively easy. Many candidates exclaimed of little time to finish UCEED part A.
However, there was no GK question in the paper. 2 to 3 questions in NAT were based on physics concepts like speed and distance. There were some alphabet-based questions.

The UCEED question paper consists of 2 sections. A maximum of 300 marks is allotted for Part A and Part B. The medium of the language for the UCEED question paper is English.

UCEED 2021 Exam Analysis
UCEED 2021 Exam was conducted by IIT Bombay on January 17, 2021. Do keep in mind the following points which are common for exams all these years:
- This exam paper is divided into two parts (Part A and Part B), and the entire paper itself consists of three different sections. Whilst Part A has negative markings, Part B doesn’t. Both the parts are allotted 300 marks.
- The cutoff is estimated based on four criteria: The difficulty level, the previous papers’ cutoff trends, the seat intakes, and the number of candidates appearing for UCEED.
According to some reports, students had adopted a careful mindset for this examination, largely due to the negative markings in Part A. Although the questions presented were multiple-choice, the time that students are expected to finish it is less, but given the cautious mindset, this can prove to be a challenge for many students.
Candidates have reported that Part A of the paper was slightly tricky while Part B was easy to moderate level of difficulty.
Part A Paper consisted of:
- NAT - 18 Questions - Difficult to solve
- MCQ - 18 Questions - Moderately difficult to solve
- MSQ - 32 Questions - Between moderate and difficult to solve
Part B Paper consisted of:
- One questions which most of the candidates found in the easy to moderate level of difficulty.
UCEED 2020 Exam Analysis
On January 18, 2020, 24 cities conducted the UCEED 2020 exams, with the marks coming up to a total of 300 marks. Based on the student feedback we’ve received, we’ve come to understand that most of them felt that the exam was moderate in difficulty. In comparison to the previous year’s papers, it was easier, but the tricky questions in Part A bumped the difficult up to moderate. However, time was a crucial factor, and most students felt like they needed more of it. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about the papers itself.
UCEED 2020 Question Papers
The question paper was divided into two parts (Part A and B), with most of the questions focussed on:
- Area and volume
- Mensuration
- Series and sequences
- Shadows
- Visualisation problems such as puzzles and visualisation theory
Part A included aptitude-based questions, but only in Verbal and Written Reasoning, and Mathematics. Part B provided a hypothetical scenario in which the candidate must picture themselves as a professor who is multitasking between her work and food; they must provide a sketch of her table as well as her view of the entire room.
If the candidate practised enough, then the question paper should’ve been straightforward for them.
UCEED 2019 Exam Analysis
January 19, 2019, saw the conduction of the UCEED 2019 exam and was conducted as a CBT. Since the UCEED exam is a path to obtaining a seat in IIT even without maintaining a PCM candidature for your higher secondary education, it saw a rise in the number of candidates that applied for the exam itself.

UCEED 2019 Question Papers
The question paper was lengthy enough; it carried 85 questions, and lasted for 3 hours, with the total score coming up to 300 marks. It was comparatively easier than the previous year’s question paper. All the questions under each section were compulsory. The paper also involved negative markings for each wrong answer, but only for 2 sections. For each correct answer, marks between 3-4 were awarded.

UCEED 2018 Exam Analysis
Much like the 2019 exam, the UCEED 2018 exam was conducted in January 2018, across 20 different cities, and conducted by IIT Bombay. There was a mock test that was provided to students in the official site that helped the candidates prepare for the test and substantially bolster their chances of success. UCEED 2018 Question Papers
UCEED 2018 was conducted for a total of 3 hours, with a total of 85 questions being asked. The total amount of marks came up to be 300.
