Overview
There are over 1,500 orphanages in Kerala, and around 75,000 children who are below the age of 18 years living in orphanages. The statistics reveal that 80% to 90% of the children in orphanages have extended families. Most children living in the orphanages have no access to proper shelter and nutritious food. The government understands the gravity of the current situation faced by these children. Therefore, the state government of Kerala launched the Snehapoorvam scholarship through the social security mission of Kerala. The orphans and abandoned children will receive financial support. However, they should be living with their families, relatives or friends to receive the Snehapoorvam scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria for Snehapoorvam Scholarship
The Snehapoorvam scholarship Kerala scheme is exclusively available to the natives of Kerala. Children who have lost either or both of their parents can apply to the scholarship. The details of Snehapoorvam scholarship eligibility criteria are as follows:
- The candidates should be domiciles of Kerala.
- Either one or both of the child’s parents should have passed away.
- They should belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
- The family income of those belonging to the Above Poverty Line (APL) category should not exceed INR 20,000 per annum in rural areas and INR 22,375 for those in the urban areas.
- Children below five years old can apply to the Snehapoorvam scholarship scheme.
- Snehapoorvam scholarship 2021 is available to students from class I to the undergraduate degree level.
- The students above five years should have enrolled in government or government-aided schools or colleges.
Benefits of Snehapoorvam Scholarship
The state government of Kerala aims to bring the affected children to the mainstream of society and better their lives by offering them the reward. However, the snehapoorvam scholarship amount varies according to the children’s class levels. The selected candidates will receive the amount every month. The rewards are as follows:

How to Apply for the Snehapoorvam Scholarship?
The parent/guardians of the children below the age of five can directly apply for the Snehapoorvam scholarship by submitting the application form to the Executive Director of the Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM) through the respective child welfare committees. Whereas, the students from class I should submit their application form to the head of their institution, who will send it to the Executive Director of the Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM) after verification. Given below are the stepwise process to apply for the snehapoorvam scholarship 2021:
Step 1: The candidates should visit the official Snehapoorvam scholarship website.
Step 2: They should click on the application forms tab available on the dashboard.
Step 3: Next, they should click on the respective Snehapoorvam scholarship application form.
Note: The parent/ guardians or candidates can find the Snehapoorvam scholarship application forms for children below and above five years on the website.
Step 4: The applicants should click on the view button and download the Snehapoorvam scholarship online application form.
Step 5: They should duly fill in the snehapoorvam scholarship form with the correct Snehapoorvam scholarship details.
For Children Below Five Years
Step 6: The parent or the guardian should submit the Snehapoorvam scholarship online application directly to the Executive Director of KSSM.
For Children Above Five Years
Step 6: After filling in the snehapoorvam scholarship form, the candidates should submit it along with the requisite documents to the head of the aided/ government institutions by October 31st every year.
Step 7: The head of the candidate’s school or college will verify the documents and submit them to the Executive Director of Kerala Social Security Mission through the official portal.

The head of the institution will further verify these documents before submitting them to the Executive Director of KSSM. - Death certificate of the parent(s)
- BPL certificate
