What is the Maulana Azad Scholarship?
Maulana Azad Education Foundation provides the ‘Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship’ formerly known as Maulana Azad Scholarship to meritorious girls belonging to the minority communities. The foundation was created by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India on the birth centenary celebrations of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
The University Grants Commission provides the Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) for students belonging to the minority communities. The scholarship provides financial aid to students studying MPhil and Ph.D. in India. It is implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India through the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Maulana Azad Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
The Maulana Azad National Scholarship is meant for the students belonging to minority communities such as Muslims, Christians, Parsis, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains. The other academic criteria required are listed below:

Maulana Azad Scholarship Rewards and Benefits:
The scholarship provides financial aid to the students in the form of admission, course fees, and maintenance fees. The scholarship amount is directly credited to the students’ bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer. The scholarship benefits are listed below:

Maulana Azad Scholarship Application Process:
Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship:
The application process for the scholarship is online through the Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) scholarship portal. The stepwise application process is explained below:
- First-time applicants should register themselves on the Maulana Azad Education Foundation online website.
- Click on the ‘Student Registration’ tab on the homepage.
- The candidate should enter personal details such as name, parents’ name, domicile, mobile number, address, etc in the registration form.
- Next, the applicant should ‘Submit’ the registration form to check for correctness.
- Post submission of the registration form, the students will receive a link to download the school verification form.
- The applicant should download the school verification form and get it verified by the respective school principal. This form is needed to be uploaded with the scholarship application form.
- Now, the candidate should log in to the official website by entering the registered mobile number and date of birth.
- The applicant should fill the scholarship application form online with bank details, academic details, parents’ occupation, and income details.
- All the supporting documents should be uploaded along with a scanned copy of the school verification form.
- The completed application form should be submitted for further processing.
Maulana Azad National Fellowship:
The application for the fellowship is through the official website of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The stepwise application process is explained below:
- The applicant should visit the UGC official website.
- On the Scholarships/ Fellowships page, the student should click on the ‘View All’ tab to see a list of all scholarships and fellowships offered by UGC.
- Under the Fellowships category, click on the ‘Apply Now’ button of the Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students.
- Read all the instructions carefully and ‘Proceed for Registration’.
- Fill in all the details to complete the registration process. A registration ID is generated in the end which should be used to download the application form once it is submitted.
- Now the application form has to be filled with all personal, academic, and institute details, research work details and also the supervisor and current employment details.
- The candidates should now review the filled in application and read the declaration section carefully before proceeding to apply.
Maulana Azad Scholarship Documents Required:
The application form should be submitted online attached with all the supporting documents. The documents required for the scholarship application are listed below:
For Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship:
- Passport size photograph
- Scanned copy of school verification form attested by the respective school principal
- Attested mark sheet of the last qualifying examination
- Parents’ income certificate
- Self-attested minority community certificate of the applicant
- Self-attested copy of first page of bank passbook
- Copy of Aadhar card
For Maulana Azad National Fellowship:
- Passport size color photograph
- Domicile certificate
- Attested Minority community certificate
- Handicap certificate, if applicable
- NET/ JRF award letter or Mark sheet if the award letter is not yet received
- Mark sheet of Master’s degree

Maulana Azad Scholarship Application Status Check:
For Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship:
The applicant can check the status of the application on the MAEF scholarship portal. The details to be entered to check the application status are:
- Category of scholarship
- Identification details such as Registration number/ Aadhar number/ Bank account number.
- Date of birth
For Maulana Azad National Fellowship:
The applicant can check the status of the application on the UGC website. The details to be entered to check the application status are:
- Candidate registration ID
- Date of birth
- Year of Scholarship applied
- Registered Email ID
Maulana Azad Scholarship Selection Process:
For Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship:
The selection of the candidates is done based on the merit and financial need of the students. The candidates belonging to low-income families are given preference.
For Maulana Azad National Fellowship:
The UGC follows certain procedures while selecting the recipients of the Maulana Azad fellowship. Selection criteria are explained in detail below:
- The application forms for the fellowship are verified by the UGC to comply with the eligibility conditions as per the guidelines.
- An expert committee is set up which goes through the submitted applications and selects a final list of applicants which is then posted on the UGC website. The decision of the selection committee is final.
- The selected candidates are required to join the fellowship on the 1st of April of the selection year.
