DAAD Scholarship 2024 invites applications from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka students. Students who are pursuing their master's and Ph.D. can apply. Awarded by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst and the German Academic Exchange Service, the DAAD scholarship provides funding for the international exchange of students and researchers.

The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst scholarship has established a network of regional offices and information centers in the partner countries. The candidates should apply for the DAAD scholarship in India more than a year in advance. The DAAD scholarship 2024 last date is October 15, 2024.

DAAD Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 2024

The candidates should meet all the DAAD scholarship requirements before applying for the program. The DAAD scholarship Germany eligibility criteria will vary for each scheme. Tabulated below are the eligibility criteria for the DAAD scholarship scheme.

  • Under this program, the exchange of scientists and academics is supported by DAAD to improve international relations and bilateral research cooperation.
  • The candidate should have completed the doctoral degree to be eligible for the DAAD India scholarship.
  • The applicant should be working at a research institute/ university as an academic/ scientist.
Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS)
  • The applicant should be a graduate of any field.
  • They should have professional work experience of at least two years.
DLR-DAAD Research Fellowship Programme
  • Highly qualified doctoral and postdoctoral students and senior scientists can apply for this fellowship scheme under the DAAD scholarship.
Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (Master’s Scholarship for Public Policy and Good Governance- PPGG)
  • The applicant should have graduated with a first-class degree in Social Science/ Political Science/ Law/ Economics/ Public Administration.
  • Candidates interested in the social and economic development of their home country are preferred.
  • Mid-career professionals are also eligible to apply for this DAAD scholarship.
India IIT Master-Sandwich-Programme (IIT)
  • Applicants should be studying in the 2nd semester of a 2-year master's program or 4th semester of a 3-year Master's program, or 8th semester of a dual degree program from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
Master of European Law (MEL)
  • The candidate should be a first-class Law graduate.
Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (PRIME)
  • The applicant should have completed the PhD degree to apply for the DAAD PhD scholarship.
  • They should fulfil the mobility rule, i.e. the applicant can choose any country (except Germany) for their research abroad provided they have not worked/ studied in that country for more than 12 months in the three years preceding the DAAD scholarship deadline 2021.
Practical Traineeships for Foreign Students of Natural and Technical Sciences, Agriculture and Forestry (IAESTE)
  • The applicant should be pursuing courses in Natural & Technical Science/ Agriculture/ Forestry.
  • The candidate should be enrolled with the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE).
Research Grants - Cotutelle Doctoral Programmes
  • Highly qualified doctoral applicants are eligible to apply for this DAAD scholarship scheme. 
  • Graduates who have taken admission for a doctoral program at the time of beginning their grant-supported research can also apply. 
Research Grants- Doctoral Programmes in Germany
  • Highly qualified young academics/ scientists who have completed their master's degree/ diploma can apply.
  • In exceptional cases, even graduates are eligible to apply for the DAAD scholarship for masters program.
Study Scholarships for Foreign Graduates in the field of Architecture
  • The candidate should have a first-class graduate degree in Architecture/ Interior Design/ Monument Conservation/ Urban Planning/ Urban Development/ Regional Planning/ Landscape Architecture/ Landscape Planning.
  • The applicant should know the language of instruction of the respective institute.
Study Scholarships for Foreign Graduates in the field of Music
  • The applicant should have a first-class university degree in Music by the commencement of the DAAD scholarship-funded study program.
  • The candidate should have completed the degree no longer than six years before the DAAD scholarship 2024 deadline.
  • If the applicant does not have a bachelor's degree in Music, they should have exhausted all the training options for their choice of instrument in their country of origin. 
  • The candidate should also know the language of instruction that matches the requirements of the respective institution.
Study Scholarships for Foreign Graduates in the field of Performing Arts
  • The candidate should have completed the bachelor's degree in Performing Arts with first-class rank no longer than six years before the application deadline of DAAD bachelor scholarships.
  • The applicant should have obtained the degree by the time of commencement of the DAAD scholarship-funded study program.
  • The applicants of Drama and Direction should have very good knowledge of the German language.
  • The candidates who have applied for Musicals/ Performance studies/ dance and Choreography should have basic German knowledge and a very good knowledge of English.
Study Scholarships for Foreign Graduates in the field of Fine Arts, Design, Visual Communication, and Film
  • The applicants should have a first-class Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts/ Design/ Visual Communication and Film.
  • The applicant should have completed the degree over six years before this DAAD graduate school scholarship programme.
  • The candidate should also know the language of instruction that matches the requirements of the respective institution.
University Summer Courses offered in Germany for Foreign Students and Graduates
  • The students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any field can apply for this DAAD scholarship's summer course.
  • Bachelors degree applicants should have completed two academic years to apply for the DAAD masters scholarship for Indian students.
  • The candidate should be at least 18 years of age at the start of the funded program.
  • The applicants should be fluent in the German language with a minimum language level of B1.

DAAD Scholarship Amount and Benefits 2023-24

The candidates selected will receive health insurance, rent subsidies, and other allowances in addition to the DAAD scholarship amount. Tabulated below are the DAAD scholarship details for rewards and other benefits.

DLR-DAAD Research Fellowship Programme
  • Doctoral students pursuing a doctorate in Germany get a fellowship amount of EUR 1760 per month, including flat-rate travel allowance, health insurance, and family allowance.
  • Postdoctoral students undergoing research in Germany get EUR 2400 per month as fellowship amount along with other allowances.
  • Senior scientists undergoing research in Germany get EUR 2760 per month as a fellowship amount and other allowances.
Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (Master’s Scholarship for Public Policy and Good Governance- PPGG)
  • The scholarship amount of EUR 850 per month, health insurance, travel allowance, study and research subsidy, and rent subsidy for spouse and children if applicable.
India IIT Master-Sandwich-Programme (IIT)
  • The scholarship amount of EUR 850 per month.
  • Health, accident and personal liability insurance is also covered.
  • 4-6 weeks of the German language course is provided at the host university.
  • One-time research allowance of EUR 266.
  • A monthly rent subsidy is provided if applicable.
Master of European Law (MEL)
  • Selected candidates get a scholarship amount of EUR 850 per month.
  • Health, accident and personal liability insurance is also covered
  • Travel allowance, rent subsidy and family allowance is provided if applicable.
  • Study and Research subsidy of EUR 460.
  • Two months of the German language course is delivered in Germany before the start of the scholarship.
Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (PRIME)
  • Funding is provided to selected students through a temporary job position at an established German University for 18 months.
  • The remuneration offered is as per the prevailing rate for postdoctoral researchers.
Practical Traineeships for Foreign Students of Natural and Technical Sciences, Agriculture and Forestry (IAESTE)
  • Selected interns get EUR 650 per month.
  • The candidates also get a medical, accident, and personal liability insurance cover.
Research Grants - Cotutelle Doctoral Programmes
  • Grant of EUR 1200 per month for doctoral candidates during their stay in Germany.
  • Medical, accident and personal liability insurance is also covered.
  • One-time research allowance, travel allowance, accommodation expenses, and other benefits are also provided.

  • Selected candidates receive grants based on the academic level.
