International Science Olympiad Syllabus 2024

The International Science Olympiad (ISO) syllabus for the different exams is called International Science Olympiad. Different levels have various International Science Olympiad (ISO) syllabus. The specialty of this syllabus is that there are also experimental concepts and theoretical concepts that students should understand as these are asked in the different International Olympiads.

International Science Olympiad (ISO) syllabus for NSE and INO for the same subject is similar. The table below gives the syllabus for different subjects.

NSEA and INAO

It is broadly equivalent to the concepts taught at the senior secondary level (up to and including Class XII) of CBSE. There will be greater prominence in Physics, Mathematics, and Elementary Astronomy.

NSEB and INBO

It is broadly equivalent to the concepts taught at the senior secondary level (up to and including Class XII) of CBSE.

NSEC and INChO

It is broadly equivalent to the concepts taught at the senior secondary level (up to and including Class XII) of CBSE.

NSEJS and INJSO

It is broadly equivalent to the concepts taught at the senior secondary level (up to and including Class XII) of CBSE. All the different subjects of science (i.e.Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and Mathematics may have roughly equal prominence.

NSEP and INPhO

It is broadly equivalent to the concepts taught at the senior secondary level (up to and including Class XII) of CBSE.

Theoretical Chemistry:

Energy levels of the hydrogen atom (formula), the square of the wave function & probability, and understanding the most significant Schrödinger equation.

Observations

  • The consideration based on usage of sky maps and catalogs
  • Naked-eye observations
  • Application of coordinate systems in the sky, magnitude estimation, and estimation of angular separation.
  • Usage of basic astronomical instruments-telescopes and various detectors for observations with instructions given.

Data Analysis

  • Analyzing the data in different ways as proper identification of error sources, calculation of errors, and estimation of their influence on the final results.
  • Proper use of graph sheets with different scales, e.g., polar and logarithmic papers. The data transformation to get a linear plot and find the "Best Fit" line approximately.
  • Knowledge of the most common experimental techniques for measuring physical quantities.
  • Fundamental statistical analysis of the observational data.
