She also propagates the need for internships, which makes sense due to the value that one can obtain from work experience rather than only textbooks.
She has completed her internship from her college MAMC and it’s associated hospitals, namely Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Center and Sushruta Trauma Center.

Read on to get some insights on the NEET preparation tips by toppers themself!
- You've achieved number 1 in the All-India Rank list. How do you feel?
Dr. Shagun Batra: I didn't get the chance to celebrate yet, but it's amazing to see this. I am elated, and the feeling is still sinking!
- What motivated you to choose medical as a career option?
Dr. Shagun Batra: Honestly, choosing medicine was not my first preference; instead, it was a last-minute decision. But now, when I think of it, I will choose this career over others. It motivates me to know I can make a difference in someone else's life.
- What can you tell me about your preparations for NEET PG 2022?
Dr. Shagun Batra: I got into Marrow around the third year; Dr Rebecca James is my favourite faculty, and the way she explained biochemistry made it easy for me. I made many notes and prepared MCQs for prefinal and final years in 3rd year. After my internship began, I started preparing notes for all 19 subjects. Internship played a vital role as it worked as a revision phase. Managing time between duties and preparation was difficult, but I'm glad everything worked out in the end!
- Were your family supportive throughout your journey?
Dr. Shagun Batra: My family was the pivotal point. They supported and motivated me every single day. They made sure I received the best education and services. When they heard the news of AIR 1, their joy bounced the roof. I lost my brother 3 years back, but somewhere I feel he is my guiding light and source of strength.
- What advice can you give to those who are preparing for their upcoming NEET PG exams?
Dr. Shagun Batra: It's essential to keep a positive mind and just do what is necessary. Further, trust your instincts; most of the time, the correct answer is the one you guess first. Keep a proper physical and mental balance. Don't lose hope; this is not the end of the world. Don't get disheartened by the rank; you fail once and try again because why do we fall, Bruce? So that we can learn to pick ourselves back up again!
- How did the mock tests help you?
Dr. Shagun Batra: I took Marrow GTs, and National mocks to assess my preparation.
- Did you have any exam day strategy?
Dr. Shagun Batra: Yes, since I already appeared for INI CET, I was pretty relaxed and confident. Of course, a good sleep, good breakfast, leaving early for the centre, read all instructions properly are necessary. Also, I ensured that I went through the entire paper once in 1.5 - 2 hours so that I could review the questions in the remaining time.

How to Become a NEET PG Topper?
Keep in mind that for any exam that you want to ace, you must have a brilliant study strategy; a good preparation plan made specifically for this exam. Here’s how you can do that:
Stick to the timetable
It’s not just that you must create a well-balanced timetable, you must also stick with it. Most candidates tend to wander away from their goals when trying to accomplish this task because they often burden themselves by studying for long hours.
Granted, it may feel as if you’re not doing your work when you don’t spend as much time on your studies. However, a well-planned regime can help establish a balance between work and play. If this is properly done, and if you stick by it, then it’s possible to stay focussed on the long-term goal consistently.
Practice questions
‘Repetition is the mother of skill’ goes the saying, and this applies perfectly here. If you can get your hands on any workbooks or information that tests your knowledge of the subjects, then we highly recommend you do that.
Almost every bit of information that is relevant to your course material will be of great benefit to you. Assuming that the exam wouldn’t ask any questions that fall outside of the course syllabus, this is the perfect way to cover any potential nook and cranny that may pop up in the exam.
Take mock tests
Completing mock tests eliminates the issue that comes with the second point made above: There is no guarantee given that the exam wouldn’t ask questions outside of the syllabus. The reason why mock tests can help a lot here is that they may or may not contain questions that are not part of the syllabus. It also provides you with some expectations as to how the actual test would play out. So the faster you finish the mock tests, the more your potential to succeed in the exam increases.
Revisit your material regularly
It’s important you understand the difference between the results of working on something for 7 hours once every week and the results of working on something for 1 hour every single day. Similarly, revisiting your material for long hours only once won’t help. It’s always optimal to revisit your material just to glance over them, but repeatedly, say, once every day.
Don’t feel too bad if you feel that your effort was low. So long as your approach is consistent, your retentive ability will always help in absorbing the source material. In essence, rote-learning a particular topic for hours on end will not show you any results.
