The NID DAT Exam 2021 is conducted for selecting the candidates for admissions into various programmes offered by the conducting institution (National Institute of Design). Candidates need to prepare and perform well in the exam in order to be shortlisted. The NID DAT Exam Pattern 2021 is determined by the conducting authority. NID DAT Exam Pattern 2021 for B.Des and GDPD

Candidates have to first appear for the prelims exam and perform well in the same. Based on their performance in the prelims test, candidates will be selected to proceed to the next level (mains test). The NID DAT exam pattern 2021, along with the marking scheme, is distinctive for the prelims and mains tests. NID DAT Prelims Exam Pattern for B.Des and GDPD

The NID DAT prelims exam 2021 for the B.Des and GDPD is a 3 hour-long, offline exam (pen and paper-based test). Both subjective and objective types of questions are asked in this exam. The prelims exam for the B.Des and GDPD is divided into two parts, namely part 1 and part 2. Part 1 comprises objective type questions, whereas part 2 comprises subjective type questions.  

NID DAT Prelims Exam 2021 Marking Scheme for B.Des and GDPD

The marking scheme for the NID DAT exam pattern 2021 of prelims test varies for each year. The below-given table of marks weighting is based on the previous year analysis, and candidates can take a note of the same.

  • The questions 1 to 22 belong to part 1 of the exam and account for 30 marks in total, 
  • The questions 23 to 26 account for 70 marks and these questions collectively form part 2. 

NID DAT Mains Exam Pattern for B.Des and GDPD

The NID DAT mains exam 2021 for the B.Des and GDPD is a 3 hour-long test. The questions asked in this test range from doodling, drawing, creative sketching, etc. The test is of 100 marks totally. 

The NID DAT exam pattern 2021 for the B.Des and GDPD mains exam comprises the following, separately held tests:

  • Studio Test: The questions under this test comprise practical, hands-on types, such as drawing, sketching, model making and also presentations, group discussions, etc. 
  • Interview: Candidates who get selected and short-listed in the studio test can appear for the interview process. This process is held based on the specialization of the candidates. 

NID DAT Exam Total Score Weighting - B.Des and GDPD 

A merit list will be prepared for the candidates who appear for both prelims and the mains exam. The total marks obtained by the candidates will be calculated by combining their scores obtained in both the tests. 

Previously, the percentile score weighting for the prelims exam was 30% and as for the mains test, it was 70%. However, the recent percentile marks weighting, for calculating the total score has been changed. The new score weighting for the NID DAT B.Des and GDPD, with respect to the mains and prelims tests, is depicted in the table below.

NID DAT Exam Pattern 2021 for M.Des

Candidates have to appear for the prelims test first, for getting admissions into the M.Des courses offered by the institution. Only after getting selected and shortlisted in the prelims test will the candidates be able to appear for the mains round. Candidates can go through the exam pattern and marking scheme of the M.Des for prelims and mains test, under this section. 

NID DAT Exam Pattern 2021 for M.Des - Prelims

The prelims exam for the M.Des is divided into two parts - part 1 and part 2. Part 1 comprises objective type questions and part 2 comprises subjective type questions. This exam is taken up offline and is for 100 marks.

This test comprises a discipline or domain specific test and a Common DAT (Design Aptitude Test). Based on the performance in both the tests, candidates will be shortlisted accordingly. 

The candidates have the option of choosing to appear for either one discipline specific test or two. 

  • The total duration for the candidates appearing for one discipline specific test and CDAT will be 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes)
  • The total duration for the candidates appearing for two discipline specific tests and CDAT will be 250 minutes (4 hours and 10 minutes)
  • For each discipline specific test, 100 minutes will be allotted and the CDAT will take place for 50 minutes.

NID DAT Exam Pattern 2021 for M.Des - Mains

The NID DAT Exam Pattern 2021 for the M.Des mains exam is an online, computer-based test, for a total of 100 marks. The total duration of the test is 3 hours (180 minutes). 

The NID DAT exam pattern 2021 for the M.Des mains exam comprises the following tests:

  • Studio Test: The studio test comprises questions based on hands-on practical exercises, such as drawing, sketching, doodling, model making, etc. The duration of the exam will be 180 minutes. The test will be held separately based on each specialization. 
  • Interview: The interview process will be conducted in the exam centres, after the studio test is conducted. This process will also be conducted separately, based on the specialization. 

NID DAT Exam Total Score Weighting - M.Des

The exam authority will release the final merit list for all the candidates who have appeared for the prelims and the mains exam. The total scores obtained by the candidates will be calculated by combining their marks in both the tests. The new score weighting for the NID DAT M.Des prelims and mains exam is depicted in the table below.
