CTET Eligibility Criteria 2024: Age, Minimum Qualifications

CTET eligibility criteria 2024 for the exam are purely based on the educational qualification of the teacher. The eligibility criteria 2024 of the teacher are discussed in the section below. Aspirants are requested to check CTET eligibility criteria 2024 before applying for CTET exam. CTET eligibility requirements are decided by CBSE for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Below is detailed information regarding CTET 2024 eligibility criteria.

CTET 2024 Eligibility - Age Limit

There is no age limit for aspirants applying for CTET exam, however, the candidate must be a minimum of 17 years of age before applying, they must also be a citizen of India to be eligible for CTET 2024.

(A) Primary Classes (I-V) Teacher

Candidates need to fulfil any one of the below-mentioned criteria:

  • Candidates must be cleared class 12 with at least 50% marks or should have cleared or appeared in the final year diploma of elementary education.
  • Candidates must be cleared class 12 with at least 50% marks or should have cleared or appeared in the final year diploma of elementary education as per the NCTE regulations 2002.
  • Candidates must be cleared class 12 with at least 50% marks and should have passed or appeared for 4 years Bachelor's Degree.
  • Candidates must be cleared class 12 with at least 50% marks and should clear or be appearing final year of the diploma of education of 2 years.
  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree and should have cleared or appeared in the final year of elementary education.

(B) Secondary Classes (VI-VIII) Teacher

Candidates need to fulfil any one of the below-mentioned criteria:

  • Candidates must have a bachelor degree plus cleared or appear in the final year of elementary education of 2 years
  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks and should have passed or appeared in 1 year of Bachelor's Degree.
  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with at least 40% marks and should have cleared or appeared in 1 year of Bachelor in Education as per the NCTE regulation.
  • Candidates must be clear class 12 with at least 50% marks and should be passed/appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education.
  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks and should have cleared or appeared in 1 year of the B.Ed program.

NOTE

  • Relaxation in Marks: A Relaxation of 5% in marks in the minimum Educational Qualification is being provided to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories.
  • Recognition of Qualification: Any Diploma or Degree Course in teacher education that is being recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) will only be considered. But if it is a Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed. (Special Education) then it must be recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
  • If a person has completed his/her Diploma in Education (Special Education) then also he/she needs to undergo an NCTE recognized 6-month Special Programme in Elementary Education.
  • Subjects Applicable: The qualifications which are mentioned above are applicable to teachers of Mathematics, Science, Social Studies/ Social Science Languages, etc.
  • For Other Subjects: For the teachers of Physical Education, they should refer to NCTE Regulation, dated 3rd November 2001. Similarly, teachers of Art Education, Craft Education, Home Science, Work Education, etc., should refer to School Management or respective State Government till the time NCTE pens down any rule.
