Why IGNOU Result Showing “Incomplete” or “Not Declared”?

- Practical exams are pending.
- Your answer sheet evaluation is still in process.
Note: If the status remains unchanged even after 3–4 weeks, raise a query via your regional centre or call IGNOU’s student support.
What Do “Completed”, “Not Completed” & “RR” Mean in Grade Card?
IGNOU’s grade card uses standard codes to track your course progress:

- Not Completed: You’ve failed in at least one component.
- RR (Re-Registered): You’ve re-registered for that course in the next session.

What is IGNOU Revaluation or Rechecking?
It is a formal process to request a reassessment of your answer scripts by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). If you’re not happy with your marks and believe that your exam marks do not accurately reflect your performance, you can apply for the rechecking or revaluation of your answer scripts. IGNOU Revaluation is a complete online process that is only available for term-end theory examinations and not for assignments, practicals, or project work.
- The revaluation request can be made online within a specific timeframe—usually within one month (or 40 days) of the result declaration.
- To apply for IGNOU Revaluation, you must submit a fee of INR 750 per course.
- During revaluation, the answer script is re-examined by another evaluator, and the higher marks between the original and revaluated scores are considered for the final result.
- The process is separate from rechecking, which only verifies that marks were correctly totaled and that all responses were marked, whereas revaluation involves a full reassessment of the paper.
- Once the updated score is available, it can be checked on the IGNOU website using the student's enrollment number.
- The entire process is conducted online through the IGNOU revaluation portal, and offline submissions are no longer accepted.

How IGNOU Result Percentage is Calculated
Once the IGNOU result 2025 is declared, the percentage of marks can be calculated very easily. It must be noted that the theory examinations carry 70% of the weightage of the total marks, while the assignment/practical marks have a 30% weightage.
The formula for calculating the marks is given in the following steps:
- Theory Marks Total Marks Obtained in Theory x 70% (or Total Marks Obtained in Theory x 0.7)
- Assignment Marks= Total Marks Obtained in Practical/Assignment x 30% (or Total Marks Obtained in Practical/Assignment x 0.3)
- Total Marks Obtained Theory Marks + Practical/Assignment Marks
- Percentage of Marks (Marks Obtained/Total Marks) x 100

For undergraduate courses, a minimum of 35 marks out of 100 is required in theory papers and 40 out of 100 in postgraduate courses. What is the Improvement Exam in IGNOU?
If you studied at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and have already completed your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, but you are not happy with your final division or percentage, IGNOU gives you an option to try and improve your results. This is called the “Improvement Exam.” However, it’s only available under certain conditions.
Who Can Apply?
- You can apply if you missed getting a higher division (like 1st or 2nd) by no more than 2% of the total marks, or, for some master's degrees, missed 55% by 2% or less.
- This option is for students who have already passed all subjects; it’s not for those who need to clear a failed paper.
- It’s only for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees—other courses aren’t eligible.
- Only written (theory) papers can be improved; you cannot retake exams for practicals, projects, assignments, lab work, or workshops.
How Many Times Can You Try?
- You can only use this improvement exam opportunity once for each program.
- Also, you need to apply within six months after you get your final mark sheet or grade card.
How Many Subjects?
- You can choose to improve up to 25% of the total credits of your program.
When and How to Apply?
- There are two times you can apply each year:
- For the June exams, you apply in April.
- For the December exams, you apply in October.
- You have to fill out the “Improvement Exam” form, attach a copy of your mark sheet, and send it by post to the Student Evaluation Division in New Delhi. At present, applications are not accepted online.
- Remember to write “Application for Improvement in Division/Class” on the envelope.
What’s the Cost?
- For Indian students, the fee is ₹750 per subject.
- For students from SAARC countries, the fee is ₹2,000 per subject.
- For other international students, it costs $60 per subject.
- You need to send the payment by Demand Draft.
How is the Result Decided?
- After you take the improvement exam, whichever marks are higher—your previous score or your improvement exam score—will be counted in your final results.
- If your division/class improves after the exam, your result will be updated with the latest date of completion.
Things to Remember:
- You can only apply if your admission or program is still valid.
- Improvement exams are only available if the course you want to retake is still being offered.
In short, IGNOU’s Improvement Exam is a special second chance for students to boost their overall division if they narrowly missed out, but it comes with strict conditions about who can apply, how to apply, and for what subjects. Make sure you follow the deadlines and instructions closely.
Passed Theory, But Failed in Assignment or Practical — What Now?
IGNOU’s rule is simple: You must pass each component of a course.
If you passed the theory but failed in:
- Assignment: Re-submit it in the next session.
- Practical: Appear in the next scheduled practical exam.
Keep an eye on the last date for assignment submissions and coordinate with your study centre.
