Kashmir University was established in the year 1948 under the name of University of Jammu and Kashmir. The University was bifurcated into two universities University of Kashmir at Srinagar and the University of Jammu at Jammu in the year 1969. Kashmir University is affiliated to UGC. It has been re-accreditated by NAAC with an "A" grade. It has 14 schools functioning under it. Kashmir University has affiliated a vast number of colleges along with the constituent colleges.

Kashmir University offers impeccable infrastructure facilities to its students which also includes hostel facilities for both and girls. Kashmir University sports an impeccable infrastructure including the hostels for boys and girls which has all the relevant facilities. The students get numerous opportunities for placements, industrial visits and internships at Kashmir University.

Kashmir University is located at Hazratbal in Srinagar and is surrounded by the world-famous Dal Lake on its eastern side and Nigeen Lake on the western side. The University's main campus is spread in an area of 247 acres. It is divided into 3 parts - Hazratbal Campus, Naseem Bagh Campus, and Mirza Bagh Campus. Kashmir Universtiy acquired additional land at Zakura near the main campus for further expansions. The campus of Kashmir University expanded over the years. Kashmir University constructed Satellite Campuses at Anantnag - the south campus, and Baramulla - the north campus and three other satellite campuses at Kargil, Leh and Kupwara. 

A sub-office of Kashmir University is opened at Jammu to provide proper guidance to the students outside Kashmir. The University offers a number of courses under the faculties of - Business and Management Studies, Arts, Applied Sciences and Technology, Law, Education, Biological Science, Social Science, Physical and Material Science, Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Music and Fine Arts, and Oriental Learning. School of Arts, Languages and Literature: 

The school has the departments of - Arabic, English, Foreign Language, Hindi, Kashmiri, Linguistics, Persian, Sanskrit, Urdu and an Institute of Music and Fine  Arts. Kashmir University offers graduate and postgraduate courses in the mentioned departments.

School of Business Studies: 

The School of Business Studies has 3 departments - Commerce, Management Studies, and Economics. The departments offer postgraduate and doctorate courses.

Faculty of Dentistry: 

The Faculty of Dentistry offers courses related to Dental Sciences. 

Faculty of Medicine: 

The Faculty of Medicine offers courses under the vast field of medicine.

School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences:

This school offers courses that revolve around the ayurvedic medicines and the Unani methods.

School of Social Sciences: 

This school has 6 departments namely - History, Library and Information Science, Media Education Research Center, Political Science, Social Work and Sociology. It also has two institutes - UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies and Shah-i-Hamdan Institute of Islamic Studies.

School of Education and Behavioural Sciences: 

The departments under the school are - Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, Education and Psychology. All the departments offer postgraduate and doctoral programs.

School of Law: 

Kashmir University law department offers courses in masters and bachelors programs in the discipline of Law.

School of Biological Sciences: 

The school has a total of 8 departments - Biochemistry, Bioresources, Biotechnology, Botany, Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Nanotechnology and Zoology. All the departments offer postgraduate and doctoral programs to its students.

School of Applied Sciences and Technology: 

The school has 6 departments - Computer Science, Department of IT and SS, Electronics and Instrumentation Technology, Food Science and Technology, Pharmaceutical Science, and University Science Instrumentation Centre. It has one institute under it - Institute of Home science.

The Kashmir University Library called the Allama Iqbal Library, was founded in 1948 along with the inception of the university

The library along with its constituent libraries is the largest library of the state of Kashmir

At present, Allam Iqbal Library is the Centre of Kashmir University Library System and has 57 Seminar Libraries attached to the different Institutes, departments and centres of the university

The library of Kashmir University has 16 divisions in the properly decorated and heated halls which are managed by the staff of the library

The library has a huge collection of more than 6 lac books along with a separate collection for visually impaired students

The library has various local, national and international newspapers, CDs, DVDs and many more

It provides Remote Access Facility [RAF] to the subscribed electronic journals and the journals that are accessible by e-Shodhsindhu Consortium

The entire collection of the library is bar coded and tagged with the Radio Frequency Identification System [RFID]

Kashmir University Scholarships:

Merit Scholarships:

The students of Kashmir University are entitled to two merit scholarships that are offered to the top two merit holders

The merit scholarship for the students of the previous year are offered on the basis of merit list in the Entrance Test to the course

In the final year, it is offered on the basis of merit in MA/ M.Sc/ M.Com/ MLIS/ previous/ 1st or 2nd-semester exams

The scholarship is offered from the date of admission to the course/ program to the last date of examination that is to a maximum period of 12 months

Research Scholarships:

Kashmir University offers 4 scholarships in each department/ research centre for carrying out research that leads to the degree of PhD/ M.Phil along with the contingency grant which is payable annually for meeting the miscellaneous expenses

Students Aid:

Kashmir University has come up with a Students Aid Fund which is awarded to the students [especially meritorious students] who come from a low-income background

The Kashmir University Alumni Association also offers financial help to the students who belong to a low-income background with the preference given to the orphans

Kashmir University Admission:

  • Kashmir University Admission is offered on the basis of marks obtained in the Entrance Exams
  • About 67% of the total seats in a course/ program will be filled by open merit category candidates
  • The rest 33% of the seats will be filled by the candidates belonging to the reserved category on the basis of merit
  • Supernumerary seats will be filled in addition to the intake capacity of a program
  • For the selection of the reserved candidates, the seats are divided equally for each category
  • If in any case, no candidate for the reserved category is eligible to fill the seat, it will be filled by an open merit candidate
  • 5% of the total seats in a program/ course will be reserved for the foreign/ NRI candidates
  • Foreign or NRI students will not have to go through the entrance exam of Kashmir University for admissions
  • The Kashmir University evaluation, answer key, results, merit list etc of the entrance exams will be displayed on the official website of the University of Kashmir
  • The first two selection list for all the courses/ programs will be issued on the basis of merit and preferences given by the candidates in their application forms
  • The Entrance test might not be conducted for admission in a course or a program if the intake capacity is equal to or more than the number of eligible candidates
  • The entrance test also has negative marks of 0.25 for each wrong answer

The daily routine is good. Well qualified professors mostly permanent faculty are in charge. Projectors and board-marker method is employed


CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS

The college hosts its own fests and has its sports committee as well. Festivals aren't much of a thing at our college..but our college does represent in various festivals hosted by KU like Sonzal or other extra co-curricular activities

Merit Scholarships:

The meritorious students in each program are eligible to receive merit scholarships which are paid to the first two top merit holders. Merit scholarship in favor of 1st & 2 nd semester students is granted on the basis of merit obtained in the Entrance Examination, while in the 3rd + 4th/5th +6th semesters, it is granted on the basis of merit obtained in the 1st + 2nd / 3rd + 4th semesters. The scholarship is granted from the date of admission to the program up to the last date of the examination, subject to a maximum period of 12 calendar months in a year.

Research Scholarships:

There are four research scholarships in each Department/Research Centre for carrying out research leading to the award of Ph.D./M Phil degrees in addition to the contingency grant payable annually for meeting miscellaneous expenses.

Student-aid Fund:

The University has also adopted a scheme called Student aid Fund under which financial assistance is extended to meritorious students who come from low-income group families. The candidates have to apply for the scholarship through their Departments. The Kashmir University Alumni Association also provides financial assistance to students with poor economic background. Preference, however, is given to orphans.

Hostel Facility For Boys and Girls at University of Kashmir:

Fully furnished hostel facility for boys and girls is provided on the campus. The campus is Wi-Fi connected including hostel rooms, corridor, Canteen, and cafeteria. The room has incoming telephone call facility. Medical facilities and Laundry facilities are also provided in Hostels.

1. Candidates having passed the qualifying examination with the required minimum percentage of marks in aggregate as given below are eligible to apply for admission to the respective programme/s.

(a) M. Sc. Bio-Technology, M. Pharm, LL. M, M. Ed and Diploma in BioInformatics - Open Merit (55%) Reserved Categories (50%)

(b) MBA, IMBA, B.Tech., MBA (Financial Management) - Open Merit (50%) Reserved Categories (45%)

(c) Other programmes - Open Merit (45%) Reserved Categories (40%)

2. Candidates having appeared in the qualifying examination can also apply provisionally, subject to acquiring required minimum percentage by or before the day of issuance of 1st selection list.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:

  1. The eligible candidates shall be required to appear in Entrance Test comprising of 60 multiple choice questions (MCQ) carrying a total of sixty marks covering the syllabus prescribed for the concerned subject/programme. The detailed syllabi and previous year’s entrance papers of all PG and other programmes “to which University is offering admission” are available on the official website of the University www.kashmiruniversity.net 
  2. 2. Entrance Test may not be conducted for admission to a programme/ course where intake capacity is equal to or more than the number of eligible applicants.
  3. 3. Negative marking shall be @25% i.e. for each wrong answer 0.25 marks shall be deducted.
