What is the Umbrella Scholarship?

The Umbrella Scholarship Scheme is an initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India which provides financial aid to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) students belonging to Arunachal Pradesh state to pursue their Class 9 to post-matric or post-secondary level education. The primary goal of the pre-matric scholarship scheme is to support the education of the ST students and reduce the incidence of drop-outs in the transition from elementary to the secondary level of education. All the candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria are awarded the Umbrella scholarship.

Umbrella Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

The scholarship scheme awards scholarship grants to students belonging to the ST category. The other eligibility criteria of the Umbrella Scholarship Arunachal Pradesh are given below:

  1. The applicant should be a domicile of Arunachal Pradesh
  2. He/ she should belong to the ST category.
  3. Students pursuing Class 9 and Class 10 education from Government/ State/ Central board schools are eligible to apply for the pre-matric scholarship.
  4. The annual family income of the pre-matric scholarship applicants should not exceed INR 2,00,000 from all sources.
  5. The candidates should not be availing of any other centrally funded scholarship.
  6. The candidate should have passed the matriculation or higher secondary from any recognized university/ institution or Board of Secondary Education to be eligible to apply for the post-matric scholarship.
  7. The student should be pursuing post-matriculation level education (Class 11 and higher).
  8. The annual family income of the post-matric scholarship applicant should not exceed INR 2,50,000 from all sources.

Umbrella Scholarship Rewards and Benefits:

The scholarship provides variable maintenance allowance along with an annual allowance to all the students fulfilling the eligibility criteria. The detailed benefits offered by the Umbrella Scholarship are given below:

  • Enrollment/ registration fees, Tuition, Games, Union, Library, Magazine, Medical Examination, and other fees that are compulsorily payable by the students to the institution/ university/ board.

  • Maintenance allowance of INR 350 per month to hostellers and INR 150 per month for day scholars.
  • Book and ad-hoc allowance of INR 1000 per annum for hostellers and INR 750 per annum for day scholars.
  • INR 240 per month as an extra allowance for students with disabilities.

Umbrella Post-matric Scholarship

  • Thesis typing and printing charges of up to INR 1600 for the research scholars.
  • Study tour charges of up to INR 1600 per annum to the selected candidates.
  • Annual allowance of INR 1200 for Essential/ Prescribed books.
  • Reimbursement of the course fees for the candidates pursuing correspondence courses.
  • The scholars get a maintenance allowance of up to INR 1200 per month for hostellers and up to INR 550 per month for day scholars.

Umbrella Scholarship Application Process:

The mode of applying for the Umbrella Scholarship 2021 is online. The step-wise application process is given below:

  • Interested applicants should visit the National Scholarship Portal.
  • He/ she should click on the ‘New Registration’ tab on the dashboard.
  • A Registration Guidelines web page is displayed and the candidate should read all the instructions carefully, select the Undertaking checkboxes, and click on the ‘Continue’ button.
  • The applicant should select the state of domicile and enter the scholarship category, scholarship scheme type, name, gender, DOB, mobile number, and email ID.
  • The candidate should provide the bank details such as Bank Name, IFSC code, Account number, etc.
  • The applicant should select the Aadhar number/ Bank account number as identification details and click on the ‘Register’ button.
  • The mobile number entered is verified and an OTP is sent to the registered mobile number.
  • The applicant should now log in to the portal using the OTP and fill in the Umbrella scholarship application form.
  • The candidates should carefully fill the form as there can be no changes made after the submission of the application.
  • Every applicant should submit only one application as multiple applications will lead to the cancellation of the form.
  • After successful completion of the application form, an application ID and password is generated to be used for future reference.

Umbrella Scholarship Documents Required:

The supporting documents to be uploaded along with Umbrella Scholarship application form are listed below:

  • Passport size photograph of the applicant
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate attested by the authorized Revenue Officer
  • Income certificate of the candidate’s parents/ guardian
  • Domicile certificate

Umbrella Scholarship Terms and Conditions:

The terms and conditions to be fulfilled to apply for the Umbrella Scholarship for pre-matric and post-matric studies are given below:

For Umbrella Pre-matric Scholarship:

  1. The scholarship amount is awarded for pursuing studies in any class for only one year. Students repeating the same class in the subsequent year will not be receiving the scholarship.
  2. The scholarship amount is disbursed only for 10 months in an academic year.
  3. Based on good conduct and regular attendance, the scholarship will be renewed for Class 10 after the candidate passes the Class 9.
  4. The benefits offered by the scholarship scheme can be changed at any time at the discretion of the Government of India.
  5. If any candidate is found to have received the scholarship by dishonest means, his/ her scholarship is canceled and the scholarship amount paid will be recovered.

 For Umbrella Post-matric Scholarship:

  • The scholarships are provided for pursuing education in India only.
  • The Umbrella scholarship scheme also covers central assistance to the States/ Union Territories to set up book banks.
  • The benefits offered by the scholarship scheme can be changed at any time at the discretion of the Government of India.
  • If any candidate is found to have received the scholarship by dishonest means, his/ her scholarship is canceled and the scholarship amount paid will be recovered.
