The Ratan Tata scholarship for engineering students 2024 is an initiative of Tata Education and Development Trust that provides financial aid to students willing to pursue an undergraduate engineering course at Cornell University. The scholarship aims to fulfil the dreams of young students who deserve to study abroad.

Eligibility Criteria for Ratan Tata Scholarship for Engineering Students

  • The applicant should be an Indian national enrolled in a 4-year Undergraduate program at Cornell University, New York.
  • They should be Indian nationals and should have attended senior secondary school in India.
  • The candidate should be eligible for need-based financial aid.
  • The scholarship applies to all the undergraduate courses offered by Cornell University.
  • The candidate should have an excellent academic record.
  • Preference is given to the qualified students enrolled in the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning; the College of Engineering; the Applied Economics and Management major in the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business; and majors across colleges in the biological sciences, physical sciences, hard sciences, and social sciences.

The detailed scholarship benefits offered by the Ratan Tata scholarship for engineering students are given below:

  • Up to 20 scholarships are awarded to deserving scholars each year.
  • The scholarship amount paid is based on the candidate's financial need and can be used for tuition fees.
  • The scholarship is granted to the students annually and is paid for the entire course duration.
  • For the 5-year program in Architecture with a total of 10 semesters, the scholarship grant is provided for up to 8 semesters only.
  • Additional funding due to double degrees or double majors is not available.
  • The scholarship does not cover living expenses/ accommodation/airfare/ travel expenses/ spouse care/ child care/ health cover/ application fees, or any other fee.

The candidates must carefully review the guidelines and instructions for the application process. The step-by-step application process is given below:

  • The applicant should complete the admission application for an undergraduate engineering program to be able to apply for the scholarship.
  • They should apply for financial aid by completing the 'Financial aid application process for international students' at Cornell University.
  • The candidate should register for financial assistance at Cornell University when applying for the course at Cornell University.
  • If the applicant does not register for financial aid when using the course at Cornell University, they will not be eligible to apply for the scholarship at any time during the course.
  • The applicant should complete the College Scholarship Service (CSS).
  • The CSS code of Cornell University is 2098.
  • The CSS profile clearly shows the applicant's financial needs to the respective colleges/ universities and helps decide the amount needed to make their education affordable.
  • The Office of Financial Aid may request additional information such as study plans, academic records, funding documents, financial documents, and a scholarship essay.
  • The CSS Fee Waiver request should be emailed to intl-finaid@cornell.edu before the application deadline.

Ratan Tata Scholarship for Engineering Students Renewal Requirements 2023-24

The renewal requirements for the scholars already availing of the Ratan Tata scholarship for engineering students are given below:

  • The deadline is provided so that the candidates get a timely notification regarding their eligibility for financial aid and can prepare for the tuition billing and payment cycle.
  • If the candidates’ application materials are received after the deadline, their university grant aid eligibility decreases by 500$ with a corresponding increase in the loan.
  • An additional 500$ decrease in the university grant aid is imposed for each extra month the application is received late.
