Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana scholarship, commonly known as the KVPY scholarship, is being implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. Financial assistance for the scholarship provided by the KVPY scheme is up to INR 7000 per month, and contingency grants of up to INR 28,000 per annum will be provided to students of higher secondary, graduation, and post-graduation pursuing studies in science. Students of class 11, 12, and college/ university categorized into the SA/ SX/ SB stream are eligible to apply for the KVPY scholarship program. The KVPY scholarship application for 2023 still needs to be updated. However, the expected date will be declared soon.

KVPY Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

The categorized general conditions of eligibility of KVPY fellowship program are as follows:

  • The KVPY scholarship is open to Indian nationals to study in India.
  • Students pursuing undergraduate programs in correspondence courses or distance education mode are not allowed to apply.

Stream-wise KVPY Eligibility Criteria

Stream SA

  • Students of class 11 of the academic year pursuing science subjects with at least 75 percent marks in maths and science in 10th board examination are eligible to attend the aptitude test (10 percent relaxation in marks will be given to SC/ ST and PwDs).
  • Under this scheme, the scholarship will be disbursed only if the student joins for basic science course in under graduation (B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.Stat./ B.S./ Int. M.S. or Int. M.Sc.) after obtaining a minimum of 60 percent marks in 12th board examination (10 percent relaxation for SC/ ST and PwDs).

Stream SX

  • Students of class 12th of the academic year pursuing science subjects and are aspiring to join for basic science courses in under graduation (B.Sc. /B.Math. /B.Stat. /B.S. /Int. M.S. or Int. M.Sc.) with at least 75 percent marks in maths and science in 10th board examination are eligible to attend the aptitude test (10 percent relaxation in marks will be given to SC/ ST and PwDs).
  • Under this scheme, the scholarship will be disbursed only if the student joins for basic science course in under graduation (B.Sc. /B.Math. /B.Stat. /B.S. /Int. M.S. or Int. M.Sc.) after obtaining a minimum of 60 percent marks in 12th board examination (10 percent relaxation for SC/SC and PwDs).
  • The above-mentioned conditions are applicable to students of the Cambridge International Examination Board (second year) in order to be eligible to attend aptitude examination and avail the scholarship.

Stream SB

  • 1st year students of under graduation pursuing basic science courses (B.Sc./B.Math./B.Stat. /B.S. /Int. M.S. or Int. M.Sc.) with at least 60 percent marks in 12th board examination are eligible to attend the aptitude test (10 percent relaxation will be given to SC/SC and PwDs).
  • Under the Stream SB, the scholarship shall be granted only if a student obtains a minimum of 60 percent marks in the 1st year final examination of (B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.Stat./ B.S./ Int. M.S. or Int. M.Sc.). Under the same stream, SC/SC and PwDs can avail 10 percent relaxation.
  • Students of UG pursuing basic science courses (B.Sc. /B.Math. /B.Stat. /B.S. /Int. M.S. or Int. M.Sc.) in mathematics, chemistry, physics, statistics, microbiology, biochemistry, ecology, cell biology, botany, molecular biology, biotechnology, neurosciences, physiology, zoology, marine biology, bioinformatics, human biology, genetics, biomedical sciences, geology, geophysics, applied physics, environmental science and material science are eligible to apply for the KVPY scholarship program.

KVPY Scholarship Rewards and Benefits

The KVPY Scholarship amount distribution based on different years of study is tabulated below:

Scholars will be invited to the National Science (Vijyoshi) Camp during the one-year interim period.

  • Selected students can benefit from the local hospitality and travel expenses for the camp under the KVPY scholarship program.
  • Students of the SC/ ST community can benefit from a certain number of exclusive additional scholarships under various streams.
  • An additional number of exclusive scholarships may granted to students of PwDs (Persons with Disability including visually and physically challenged) category under various streams.
  • SC/ ST and PwDs can benefit 10 percent relaxation in percentage of marks under all categories.
  • Each fellow gets a special privilege to access National Universities, libraries, laboratories, etc. subject to the production of KVPY scholarship identity card.

Application Process for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Scholarship

There are three steps for the successful completion of KVPY application:

  1. Registration
  2. Filling academic and personal details
  3. Application fee payment
  • Visit the KVPY login section at the scholarship portal.
  • Complete the online registration.
  • Enter personal details such as name, the stream of education, date of birth, email id, phone number, etc.
  • Review the terms and conditions and submit ‘Agree’.
  • Submit the register button.
  • The applicant will receive the password and username in the registered email id.
  • Log in and provide academic details.
  • Upload photo and signature (scanned copy).
  • Pay the application fee through Net banking, ATM-debit card or credit card.

KVPY Scholarship Registration Process

The instructions regarding the registration process for the scholarship has to be strictly followed.

  • The students are requested to fill in all the details carefully.
  • A valid mobile number and email id is compulsory for online registration.
  • The mobile number and email id have to be active till the announcement of results.
  • No changes in the application can be made once the registration is submitted.
  • Once the confirmation of registration has been received, the candidate may log in with the user id and password.

KVPY Application Fee Details

  • INR 1000 will be the application fee for General and OBC category.
  • For SC/ ST and PwDs INR 500 is the application fee (excluding bank charges).

KVPY Application Form

The KVPY scholarship publishes the detailed advertisement of information every year in the month of July. Candidates can access the application form after the advertisement publication. KVPY Admit Card

The admit card for the KVPY scholarship examination can be downloaded from the second week of October. To download the admit card, candidates can log in to their application section in the KVPY portal. Details regarding seat number, examination venue are available in the admit card. Selection Process for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Scholarship

Details regarding the three phases of the selection process such as aptitude test, admit card and interview are given below:

  • Eligible candidates of various streams must appear for the aptitude test conducted at different centers across the country in English and Hindi.
  • Admit cards for the examination can be downloaded from the website.
  • Students will be shortlisted based on the performance in the examination.
  • Further, shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview round.
  • KVPY fellows will be selected from the final stage of the interview.

Note: The computer-based mock test for the KVPY aptitude test is available on the scholarship portal.

Scholarship Renewal

  • Scholarship renewal of school/ college or university students will be generated on the basis of the minimum level of academic performance.
  • Fellows should pass with a minimum of 60 percent marks or equivalent grade in that particular academic year (10 percent relaxation in marks will be given to SC/ ST and PwDs).
  • For the scholarship renewal, it is mandatory to pass in all the subjects. Also, the marks or grades will have to be certified by the institution head or Dean.
  • Satisfactory performance and participation in the first-year summer camp and summer project in each year is also required for the scholarship renewal.
  • The contingency grant and scholarship will be canceled in case a fellow changes his/ her course of study during the scholarship tenure.
  • The renewal form for KVPY Scholarship is available on the official website for candidates seeking further scholarship assistance.

Terms and Conditions

  • Applications must be submitted through online only, applications in hard copy are not allowed. Also, applications in bulk from colleges or schools are not entertained.
  • The objective of the examination is to test the analytical ability and understanding of the student. No prescribed syllabus is available for the aptitude test.
  • Details regarding the KVPY scholarship will be advertised through all the national dailies on 11th May (Technology day) and the second Sunday of July every year.
  • More than one scholarship or scholarship is not allowed under this scheme.

Aptitude Test Guidelines and Conditions

  • Applicants are requested to bring admit card along with valid id proof with a clear photograph.
  • Students without valid id proof and admit cards will not be allowed to attend the aptitude test.
  • Students are advised to be present at the examination center at least before an hour of commencement of the examination.
  • Students are not allowed to carry any electronic devices or calculators.
  • For rough work, students will be provided with sheets and virtual calculators will be available on the computer.
  • Carrying or use of pen drive, portable hard disc, mobile phone, data card, pagers or I-pod are strictly prohibited inside the examinations hall.

KVPY Aptitude Mock Test
