INSA Fellowship

INSA fellowship aims to assist talented scientists and recognise their scientific activities by providing them with the necessary resources to support their research. In addition, it allows scientists who are undergoing specialised training in one of the Indian research institutes or laboratories to conduct advanced research at INSA. 

The academy launched the INSA fellowship programme to promote scientific knowledge and find solutions to tackle modern humanity's problems. Furthermore, it is committed to protecting the interests of Indian scientists, representing their work internationally. Candidates who qualify for the scholarship will receive a reward of INR 30,000. The last date to apply for the IAS-INSA Summer research fellowship will be updated soon.

INSA Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

The candidates should be Indian citizens with a strong passion for research. Those who have previously benefited from the INSA fellowship cannot apply for the programme again. The eligibility criteria are as follows: 

• Scientists working in an R&D organisation approved by the competent authorities can apply for the INSA fellowship.
• Faculties working in universities recognised by the Indian government can also apply for the programme.

Rewards of INSA Fellowship 

The selected candidates will receive a consolidated INSA fellowship amount of up to INR 30,000 per month. The duration of the programme can vary from one month to six months, depending on the research project. The INSA fellowship money is awarded to the fellows for their lodging, boarding and travel expenses. The selected candidates can conduct their research work at any laboratories or institutions of their choice.

How to Apply for INSA Fellowship? 

The applications for the INSA summer fellowship are open once a year. The applicants should approach the host institution and the concerned scientist to establish the concurrences of accepting them. 

Eligible candidates should duly fill in the INSA fellowship form, attach the documents and send two sets of them to the head office before the last date. The candidates can refer to the stepwise process given below to know how to apply for INSA fellowship 2023. 

Step 1 - The candidates should download the INSA fellowship application form.

Step 2 - They should fill in the details and enclose the INSA fellowship application form 2023 along with the required documents in an envelope.

Step 3 - Next, the candidates should send them (two sets) to the below address:

Deputy Executive Director-I (Scientific), Indian National Science Academy, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi – 110002. 

Note: The applicants should ensure the INSA fellowship application forms reach the academy by April 15th (tentatively) preceding the year of selection.

The candidates should provide a report summarising their plan of work or research study while applying for the programme. Therefore, the essential documents to submit while applying for the INSA visiting scientist programme are as follows: 

• Their latest and updated CV
• A concise report of the plan of work or study

Selection Criteria of INSA Fellowship 

The selection of the INSA fellowship involves a rigorous process. The panel will select the candidates based on their academic merit and work experience. The selected fellows can train in specific techniques or conduct advanced research at any Indian research institutes or laboratories through the INSA fellowship 2023. The selection criteria are as follows: 

• The science promotion committee at INSA will scrutinise and shortlist the candidates for the INSA fellowship programme.
• The academy will inform the shortlisted candidates regarding its decision.
• INSA will limit the total fellowship awards to up to 120 person-months in a year.
• The decisions of the management of the INSA fellowship will be final and binding.
