What is PSTET?

About PSTET: Punjab State Teachers Eligibility Test is a state-level exam conducted by the Punjab School National Board (PSEB) for all those candidates who wish to teach in a government or private school in Punjab, from classes 1 to 8.

Paper 1 is for those applicants who wish to be teachers of the Primary School classes of 1 to 5 and Paper 2 is for those applicants who wish to be teachers of the Upper Primary School classes of 6 to 8.  The nature of the exam is qualifying. It helps in shortlisting candidates for further events which are related to the recruitment process. It is an Offline examination which means the exam is pen and paper-based. The exam is available in two languages English and Hindi. Punjab State Teachers Eligibility Test is a state-level TET exam which is conducted once a year.

Duration and mode of paper: The exam duration for each paper is 2.5 hours. The language of the exam is Bilingual (Hindi & English).

PSTET 2020 Exam Date

The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is expected to release the official notification of PSTET exam in the month of October on their official website. Candidates aspiring to write the PSTET exam must check the latest updates of important dates and events and should register before the deadline.

Application date: The application form for the PSTET exam is expected to commence in the month of November and the deadline will be till December. The admit card will be available in the last week of December.

Exam Dates: The PSTET exam will be tentatively conducted in January 2021. The previous PSTET exam was held on January 19, 2020. Below are the important dates regarding the PSTET 2020 exam:

The exams shall be conducted in the written form only. The exams will be in Hindi and English depending on the applicant's preference.

PSTET 2020 Eligibility

The Punjab School National Board has set a few guidelines for the applicants who want to write the PSTET. Candidates must meet all the eligibility criteria in terms of educational qualification, age limit, etc to write the PSTET exam. They are as below.

Education Qualification

Paper 1: 50% marks in 12th standard and a four-year Elementary Education Training. Candidates with graduation or diploma in elementary education may apply as well.

Paper 2: Candidate must be a graduate and also hold a B.Ed. degree.

Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for either of the papers.

Number of Attempts

There are no limits on the number of attempts that are made by the candidate. Candidates who want to improve their score can also appear for the exam twice.

PSTET 2020 Application Form

The PSTET 2020 application process is expected to commence in November 2020. The application correction window will be open from December 2020. Candidates must remember that the PSTET application form is accepted through online mode only. The PSTET application form must be downloaded through the official website.

How to fill the PSTET 2020 application form

Candidates can follow the step by step process to complete the PSTET 2020 application form

  • Visit the website official website of PSTET - www.pstet.net
  • On the homepage of the website, search for the link to apply online for the PSTET 2020 exam.
  • The candidate must have a valid email ID and a phone number to apply online for the exam.
  • Candidate must read all the instructions and declarations carefully before filling up the application form. Once the candidate has finished reading all the mentioned instructions, click on the checkbox and then "Click here to Proceed".
  • Candidates must provide all the mandatory personal details such as candidate's full name, parent's name, gender, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, category, permanent address, religion/caste and education details such as graduation degree details, year of passing, CGPA/Percentage secured etc.
  • Confirmation for the registration will be sent to the email ID and mobile number that the candidate has entered. Review the entire details entered by the candidate. Once finished, proceed to upload the documents
  • Candidates have to upload the latest passport size photograph and scanned copy of the signature in the prescribed specification. Once uploaded, proceed to make the payment.
  • Make the payment either through online or by submitting challan at Punjab National Bank. General/OBC applicants need to pay INR 600 as application form fee. SC/ST and Physically Handicapped candidates need to pay INR 300 only as application fee.
  • Once the payment is successful, candidates can download and take the printout of the completed PSTET 2020 application form and keep it for future reference.

PSTET 2020 Admit Card

PSTET 2020 Admit Card is released by the Punjab School National Board one week before the examination. For the PSTET 2020 exam, the board will release the admit card in January 2021. After filling the application form and paying the application fee the candidate will be able to download the admit card. The candidate must download the admit card from the official website by entering their application number and password.

Candidates must bring the PSTET admit card to the exam centre along with a valid photo identity proof such as Aadhar card, Voter ID, Passport, Driving License etc.

PSTET 2020 Exam Pattern

Candidates aspiring for the PSTET 2020 exam must have a clear idea about the pattern of the exam in terms of the number of questions, exam duration, marking scheme and much more. Candidates can find the details about the PSTET 2020 exam pattern below.

Papers and Types of question: There will be 2 papers in PSTET 2020 exam. Paper 1 is for those candidates who intend to be a teacher for classes I to V (Primary Teacher) and fulfils the eligibility criteria mentioned above. Paper 2 is for the candidates who intend to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII (TGT- Trained Graduate Teacher) and fulfils the minimum eligibility criteria. All questions are compulsory and will be of Multiple Choice Questions with 4 options

Test duration and Language: Both paper 1 and paper 2 will be conducted for 150 minutes. The question paper will be bilingual - English and Hindi.

Marking Scheme: +1 mark is awarded for each correct response and no negative marking is applicable for wrong answers.

PSTET 2020 Exam Pattern Paper 2

The following table gives the detail about the PSTET 2020 paper 2 pattern. There will be 4 sections in which 3 sections comprises 30 questions and 1 sections comprises 60 questions. There will be no sectional timing applicable in paper 2 also.

Note: A mathematics and science teacher must choose the mathematics and science paper carrying 60 marks whereas a social science teacher must choose the social science paper carrying the 60 marks. Any other subject teacher can elect for either of the two (Mathematics and Science or Social Science).

PSTET 2020 Syllabus

The syllabus for the PSTET exam is the decision taken by the Punjab School National Board. The syllabus for each paper has been described below.

PSTET 2020 Syllabus Paper 1

  • Child Development and Pedagogy- Focuses on Educational Psychology of teaching and learning which is relevant for the students age 6 to 11 years. Understanding the characteristics and Needs of Diverse Learning, interaction with students, and the attributes and qualities of a good teacher.
  • Language 1 and 2- will be based on what the applicant opts for. Language 1 will focus on the medium of instruction that the teacher would use. Language 2 will be any other Language apart from Language 1 and this will focus on elements of language, communication, and comprehension skills.
  • Mathematics and Environmental Studies- These will focus on concepts, problem-solving abilities, pedagogical understanding of the subjects.

The Syllabus will be restricted to the topics of standard 1 to 5 of the State but the difficulty level and linkages can be of higher standards.

PSTET 2020 Syllabus Paper 2

  • Child Development and Pedagogy- Focuses on Educational Psychology of teaching and learning which is relevant for students aged 11 to 14 years. Understanding the characteristics and Needs of Diverse Learning, interaction with students, and the attributes and qualities of a good teacher.
  • Language 1 and 2- will be based on what the applicant opts for. Language 1 will focus on the medium of instruction that the teacher would use. Language 2 will be any other Language apart from Language 1 and this will focus on elements of language, communication, and comprehension skills.
  • Mathematics and Science or Social Science- These will focus on concepts, problem-solving abilities, pedagogical understanding of the subjects. The test of Mathematics and Science will be of 30 marks each. The test topics will be evenly divided over different standards syllabus that the state government has decided for standard 6 to 8.

The Syllabus will be restricted to the topics of standard 1 to 5 of the State but the difficulty level and linkages can be of higher standards.

PSTET 2020 Result

The PSTET 2020 exam conducted by the Punjab School National Board has two rounds that an applicant must clear to become a teacher an teach in the State of Punjab. After Appearing for either Paper 1 exam or Paper 2 exam or both the applicant can download their result from the official website.

How to download the PSTET 2020 Result?

Candidates can follow the steps given below to download the PSTET 2020 Result:

  • Step 1: Once the PSTET result is declared, candidates need to visit the official website of Punjab School Education Board.
  • Step 2: On the home page of the website, click on "Result Declared".
  • Step 3: Candidate must enter their registration number and password and click on "Submit".
  • Step 4: The candidate's result will be displayed on the screen.
  • Step 5: The candidate must download the result and take a printout of the PSTET 2021 result for reference in the future.

Although the candidate can appear for the test once in a year, there is no restriction to the number of times a candidate can apply throughout their lifetime.

Candidates will be hired depending on the vacancies. On qualifying, the results will be valid for 7 years.

PSTET 2020 Selection Process

Candidates who qualified for the PSTET 2020 Exam will be qualified based on these two rounds:

  1. Written Examination
  2. Interview

PSTET 2020 Cut-Off

PSTET Cut-Off 2020 for the exam is decided by the Punjab School National Board. If a candidate gets above the minimum cut-off percentage, the candidate could qualify for the second round which is the document verification round.

  • General: 90 marks or 60%
  • OBC/SC/ST: 82 marks or 55%

The PSTET answer key will be released to the Punjab School National Board after the exam has been conducted on their official website. A candidate can check their answers and get an approximate idea of how their paper has gone.
