About OSSTET Exam

Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha conducts the Odisha Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test for individuals who aspire to teach in a Government or a Private School in the state of Odisha.  This exam is mandatory for every individual who wants to teach in any of the secondary schools in Odisha. OSSTET 2023 Eligibility

OSSTET 2023 Eligibility criteria are essential for a candidate to take the OSSTET exam. If a candidate does not fulfil the eligibility criteria then they are not allowed to give the exam or even if they do give but on verification of documents, it is seen that the candidate is not eligible then the exam result is not valid. The following are the eligibility criteria a candidate must fulfil to write the state-level exam.

Nationality

The following details the OSSTET 2023 eligibility criteria based on a candidate's nationality:

  • The candidate must be a resident of Odisha.
  • The candidate can not belong to other states. If they do then they are not eligible.
  • The candidate must be fluent in writing and speaking Odia.
  • Candidate must have passed their Higher Secondary Examination from the BSE Odisha. If the candidate has studied from CBSE and ICE Board then Odia should have been one of their subjects.
  • Candidates who want to teach Hindi, Urdu, Telegu, and Sanskrit teachers must have passed Odia till standard 7.

Paper-wise eligibility

The following details the paper-wise, OSSTET 2023 eligibility criteria:

PET

Candidates must have passed 12th with at least 50% or more marks. In the case of reserved categories at least 45% or more. Candidates must have also passed B.P.Ed/M.P.Ed/C.P.Ed from a recognized institution or university.

TGT

Candidates must have passed B.A or B.Com with at least 50% or more and in case of reserved categories at least 45% or more. Candidate must have also passed B.Ed. (OR)

Candidate must have four-year integrated B.A., B.Ed

Subject-wise Eligibility

The following details the subject-wise, OSSTET 2023 eligibility criteria:

Hindi

The candidate must have a Bachelors's degree with Hindi as either the main or elective or optional Subject or second language. Also, candidates must have a B.Ed degree in Hindi or Hindi Sikshyan Parangat from Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra/ B.H.Ed course prescribed by NCTE, from a recognized University/ Institution.

Candidates must have a bachelors degree from any recognized college and must also have a Shastri (Hindi) from Orissa Rastrabhasa Parisad, Puri/ Rastrabhasa Ratna from Rastrabhasa Prachar Samiti, Wardha and B.Ed degree in Hindi/ Hindi Sikshyan Parangat from Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra/ B.H.Ed course prescribed by NCTE, from a recognized University/ Institution.

Telugu

Candidates must have at least 50% marks or more in 12th class and the case of the Reserved category 45% or more. Candidates must also have a B.Ed in Telugu from any university.

Urdu

Candidates must have a B.Ed in Urdu from a recognized university and 50% or more in Alim.

B.A degree in Persian with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed degree in Urdu

Sanskrit

Candidate must have a bachelor's degree with Sanskrit as their main subject, Elective subject, or Optional subject or must have passed Shiksha Shastri (Sanskrit) from a recognized university.

Candidate must have scored a minimum of 50% in Shiksha Shastri (Sanskrit) from a recognized university and 45% in the case of reserved categories.

Trained Graduate Science in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) or Chemistry, Zoology, Botany (CZB):

Candidates must have cleared B.Sc or B.tech or B.E with 50% marks or more from a recognized university and B.Ed degree from a recognized university. In the case of reserved categories 45% or more.

OSSTET 2023 Exam Pattern

OSSTET 2023 is divided into two papers. A candidate who wants to teach Arts, Language, and Science must appear for Paper 1 whereas a candidate who wants to teach physical education must appear for Paper 2. The paper has 150 questions, that are multiple-choice questions. Each question will have four options of which one is the right answer. The paper will be for 2 hours 30 mins with 4 sections in each paper.

OSSTET 2023 Syllabus

OSSTET 2023 Paper 1 syllabus is subject-wise and is not the same for all. However, Section 1- Language Odia, Section 2- Language English and Section 4- Child Pedagogy and School Management and Evaluation are the same in all paper 1 subjects.
