SSM College of Engineering was established in 1998 by ‘Gnanathandhai’ SSM Subramaniam an industrial conglomerate. SSMCE is headed by the Chairman ‘Cavalier’ Dr. M. S. Mathivaanan and having been placed in the highly industrialized zone of South India, is recognized as one of the best engineering colleges in South India. The prospective students are being indulged in a noteworthy range of activities through academic courses, public service, and an extraordinary breadth of extracurricular activities.

The college is affiliated with Anna University wherein the permanently affiliated departments are ECE, EEE, and Mechanical. Apart from affiliations the college is approved by AICTE and has UGC recognition too.

SSM has facilities for the differently-abled such as ramps, lifts, washrooms, tactile path, display board, and common rooms which can be of high benefit for their usage.

SSMCE has collaborations with STEMSEL Foundation, CISCO Networking Academy, NIIT Careers, Remote Centre of IIT Bombay, etc. Which allows its students to gain additional skills apart from academics. The college also has a community radio named SSMCR90.8.

SSM College of Engineering Infrastructure

The college is facilitated with the state of art classroom facilities providing the students with the required number of classrooms fully equipped with tables, chairs, projectors, inter-com, fans, light, etc for a pleasant classroom experience. Apart from these, the college has a board room, seminar halls, drawing halls, departmental laboratories, library, and 50 Mbps internet facility including LAN and Wi-Fi.

ICT Facility:

There are seven computer laboratories with a high-speed internet connection with Wi-Fi with yearly up-gradation. The labs have a display screen facility for an easier teaching-learning process. The ICT facility includes projectors, wireless microphones, sound systems, marker boards, PA system, desktop recorder with an internet facility for lectures, seminars, webinars, conferences, guest lectures, and workshops

Auditorium & Conference Halls:

The campus is provided with air-conditioned seminar and conference halls equipped with audio, video, and projector facilities. These halls are mainly used for conducting guest lectures, seminars, etc. But are also used during symposiums and placement programs too.

The college owns a newly built state of the art auditorium apart from the conference halls. The auditorium has a seating capacity of 3000 people and is used for conducting functions such as convocation, festivals, cultural programs, etc.

Library:

The college has a central library equipped with modern facilities and resources such as CD-ROMs, Online databases, audio-video cassettes, books, e-journals, patents, thesis, monographs, etc. The library has more than 50,000 books and 350 journals in various disciplines.

Sports:

SSM encourages its students to stay healthy in both mind and body by harnessing the physical education motto “CITIUS ALTIUS FORTIUS - Fastest, Highest and Strongest”. The college provides excellent opportunities for its students to interact with each other in the true spirit of sportsmanship. Each year the students are divided into 4 groups which get shuffled every year thus promoting comradeship and kinship among the students. The college regularly holds a state-level inter college volleyball tournament sponsored by Sivaji-Prabhu charitable trust. Other outdoor sports like cricket, basketball, volleyball, shuttle, tennis and indoor games like table tennis, carrom, chess, etc are also available.  

NSS:

The National Service Scheme was started in the year 1998 in SSMCE having two units and a total of 200 volunteers for performing social services. To date, the association has done several activities such as planting trees, Swachh Bharat, etc.

SSMCE offers scholarships to deserving candidates by two means, one is through the scholarships provided by the Govt. Of Tamilnadu / Govt. Of India and by means of scholarships provided by SSM Foundation Trust for Education & Social Development. 

Scholarships provided by the Govt. of Tamilnadu/Govt. of India

• Tamil Nadu Govt. First Graduate Scholarship 
• Students admitted through TNEA Anna University Counselling and
• First Graduate in the Family are eligible for this scholarship
• There is no limit for the annual income of the parent
• The amount given for both the day scholar and hosteller student is Rs.25,000

• Tamil Nadu Govt. BC & MBC Scholarship
• Students admitted through TNEA Anna University Counselling
• The annual income of the parent must be less than 2 Lakhs
• Day scholar students are granted Rs.5,000-6,000/ year
• Hostellers are granted Rs.7,000-8,000/ year

• Tamil Nadu Govt. SC & ST Scholarship
  • The annual income of parent must be less than 2.5 Lakhs for the SC category and less than 2 Lakhs for SCC category students

SSM College of Engineering Eligibility Criteria:

SSMCE has a detailed explanation of the eligibility for the UG, PG, and lateral entry programs for the candidates reference who are interested to apply. The basic eligibility criteria are similar in all disciplines with only a few variations when the level of the degree increases. The lateral entry students with degrees in BE/B.Tech courses only are eligible for MCA and MBA programs. Candidates with BE/B.Tech degree obtained through weekend courses and distance education are not eligible for MBA and MCA programs offered at SSM College.

SSMCE Admission:

The college has no specific entrance examinations conducted for admission procedures. The admission is done through counseling and management methods. The college has announced that the admission process for the year 2020 is open and candidates who are interested can join using the counseling code 2614 (government quota students) and information regarding the management seats can be obtained from the admission cell of SSM College. The students can ask their queries via mail at admission@ssmce.ac.in.

SSM College of Engineering Hostel Details:

SSM provides residential facilities for its students stimulating home conditions to provide them with the most conducive environment for education. The hospitality provided by the institution for the residential students ensures a much more comfortable and pleasant stay making it their second home. The hostel facilities are available for both genders with the Principal as the chief warden. The boy's hostel accommodates about 600 students having separate blocks for UG and PG students. The facilities include steam cooking, reverse osmosis water, 24 hours internet, STD booth, general store, 24 hours availability of doctors on call, emergency transportation, both veg and non-veg menu, and yoga classes.

International Hostel:

The International Hostel facility is provided for the foreign nationals students by SSMCE. The hostel has facilities such as air-conditioned rooms with attached washrooms, furnished rooms, generator power-backup, indoor courts, a western cuisine menu, and a separate gym.

Rules & Regulations:

• The SSMCE hostel has a set of rules framed to be followed by the students for the smooth functioning of the hostel management
• A separate application is required for the hostel.
• Students are not permitted to stay away from the hostel other than vacation and study holidays.
• Residential students are permitted to visit their parents/guardians only after producing written permission from their parents.
• Guests are allowed only during visiting hours.
• Students involving themselves in the act of ragging/bullying will be expelled from the hostel and from the institution.
• Students should remember that Ragging is a criminal offense by law.
• Consumption of all forms of intoxicants is banned on campus.
