The goal of every department at the NIE college is to offer world-class education, high-tech infrastructure, and globally acceptable education which will produce competent, professional, and ethical engineers.
The oldest dept in The National Institute of Engineering, its students win ranks at the university ever year. The faculty is experienced and the department is well-equipped with the latest instrumentation and carries out research in the areas of structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and water resources. Besides regular testing, the department also offers consultancy and testing to other departments and even government agencies. It also takes up social audits.
Established in 1953, this dept is staffed by experienced and dedicated faculty. It provides consultancy services and does research in the areas of Automation Technologies, Nanotechnology, Composite Materials, and Energy Systems Engineering and has established centers of excellence viz. Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CREST), Centre for Nanotechnology (CNT), Centre for Automation Technologies (CAT), etc. Students can get hands-on training due to collaborative ventures with tops companies such as Bosch, Siemens, Volvo, etc.
This NIE dept began in the year 1958. It conducts research funded by UGC and AICTE in Energy Management and Distribution System as well as Power Systems. It collaborates in R & D with the Electrical Engineering Division of IISc; Karnataka Power Corporation; CPRI, Bangalore, and the State Electricity Board. Its consultancy work involves testing of motors, transformers, and Insulation of electrical appliances, Insulation Boards, etc., for clients.
This NIE dept saw its inception in the year 1971 and has worked towards achieving engineering excellence since then. It emphasizes keeping up with not only the basics but also the current trends in Electronics, Computers, Communication Engineering, and Instrumentation. Students can find modern laboratory facilities and learned faculty who review textbooks, having completed many industries and KSCST sponsored projects.
Originally a part of the Dept of mechanical engineering this dept. split in 1981. It researches in the broad areas of production and specializes in Metal Cutting, Machine Tools, Finance and Quality Control, Advanced Manufacturing, CAD-CAM, Robotics, Industrial Engineering, Advanced Materials, etc. The dedicated faculty, facilities, and infrastructure can help the students imbibe professionalism and ethics.
This department was inaugurated in 1983 and has grown over the 30 years with improved infrastructure, the latest courses, and experienced faculty. The TEQIP grant from the World Bank has helped to amp up the facilities and has been used for faculty development programs. There are 6 large computer laboratories and besides the computers, there are color inkjet printers, digital cameras, multimedia projectors, laser and scanning, and image transformation facilities.
This department began in the year 1997. It provides training and education as per the industry demands with a focus on the student’s academic performance as well as all-round personality development. Several training programs in recent technologies are conducted by the teaching staff to develop the software skills of the students.
A shortage of IT engineers was remedied when this NIE department was begun in 1999. The department offers state-of-the-art computational facilities and conducts significant research. The alumni are well-placed.
This department is constituted by Geology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics Departments. The geological museum contains collections of Indian and Foreign mineral and rock specimens, to meet the requirements of the Civil Engineering students.
The National Institute of Engineering offers several courses for which the fees can be paid by DD or online through NEFT via HDFC bank.
The National Institute of Engineering offers several scholarships to meritorious and/or disadvantaged students. It also allows scholarships from non-affiliated organizations.
Some of the scholarships that can be availed are:
The National Institute of Engineering, NIE has a large campus having 3 blocks- Golden Jubilee Block, Administrative Block, and the Diamond Jubilee Sports Complex. It offers the following infrastructural facilities:
NIE is one of the top 10 Engineering Colleges in Karnataka which has received accreditation for its programs.
NIE Placement Division is equipped with infrastructures such as group discussion and interview rooms. A placement cell library with a good collection of books and materials contributes to overall personality development. A lot of companies visit the campus every year and the number of students placed through campus recruitment activity is increasing yearly.
NIE largely follows the criteria as suggested by VTU and AICTE directives. It has a diverse, multicultural student body drawn from all over the country.
