Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana is a scheme launched by the Department of Posts under the Government of India. The scholarship's objective is to encourage children from class VI to IX to collect and learn more about postage stamps as a hobby. The Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana is also known as Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude and Research in Stamps. 

The hobby of collecting, displaying, storing, and learning about different stamps is called philately. Philately is a hobby where people collect stamps, learn its history and socio-economic and political reality. The Department of Posts has introduced the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship to encourage the art of stamp collection among young students and award them with INR 6,000 per annum. The application for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship last date was August 2020 (tentatively).

Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 

The students from class VI to class IX are eligible to participate in the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship. They should ensure they meet all the requirements before participating in the competition. The Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship eligibility criteria are as follows: 

  • The candidates should be pursuing regular classes in an Indian school recognised by the government.
  • The candidate's school should have a philately club, and he/she should be an active member of the club.
  • They should remember the date of application for membership/account at their school philately club.
  • If the school does not have a philately club, the candidates should have a philately deposit account.
  • The candidates should hold an excellent academic record.
  • The candidates should have secured at least 60% marks or an equivalent grade/grade point in the previous qualifying exam at the time of selection.
  • However, the organisers relax 5% marks for the SC/ST students. 

Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana 2021 Rewards

 The Department of Posts recognises and rewards around 920 students practising philately through the Deen Dayal Yojana scholarship. Every postal circle in India will offer up to 40 scholarships to 10 selected students, and they will receive INR 1,500 each quarter. The recipients should open a joint account with their parents at the post office savings bank or India post payment bank. 

How to Apply for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana? 

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for the scholarship by filling the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship application form and either sending it by speed post, registered post or submitting it in person to the divisional head. The students can fill in the application form in English or Hindi. The candidates should address the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana application form to the concerned divisional head. The stepwise procedure to apply for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship are as follows: 

Step 1 - The candidates should download the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana application form by clicking here.

Step 2 - They should duly fill in the form and attach the required documents.

Step 3 -The candidates should enclose the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana application form and the documents and send it through a registered post, speed post or submit it in person to the divisional head. 

The schools can also apply for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana on behalf of the students. The head of the school should enclose all the candidates' applications in an envelope and send them to the divisional head by post.

Note: The organisers will not accept the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana application forms sent by courier.

Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana Essential Documents 

The candidates should attach certain documents while applying for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana. They should submit photocopies of the documents along with the application form. The essential documents required for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana are as follows:

  • Marksheets of the previous qualifying exam
  • Report card
  • A certificate from the school
  • Philately club's membership or account details
  • ID proof
  • Bank details
  • Caste certificate (if applicable) 

Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana 2021 Selection Process 

The selection process for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana 2021 involves two stages, that is, a quiz and a project. A committee will select the candidates after evaluating their project and assessing their performance in the quiz. 

The post office circle will form a selection committee that will conduct quizzes relating to philately. It will consist of well-known philatelists and post office officials. The details of the selection process for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana are as follows: 

Level 1: Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana - Written Quiz 

The postal authorities will conduct a written quiz relating to philately at the regional level. Candidates who clear the quiz will move to the next level. The time limit for the written quiz is one hour. Some of the key points regarding the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana written quiz are as follows: 

  • The quiz is for 60 minutes.
  • The Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana's written test will consist of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) from the following subjects:
    • History
    • Geography
    • Science
    • Sports
    • Culture
    • Current affairs
    • Local and national level philately
  • There are no negative markings in the quiz. 

Level 2: Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana Philately Project 

The students who clear the philately written quiz should submit a project within 15 days from announcing their selection. The final selection is solely be based on the project. The authorities will declare the results on the concerned postal circle website. The authorities will evaluate the project work submitted by the students. 

The post office circles will release the list of topics for projects while issuing the notifications within 15 days after the written test. The candidates can obtain these topics from the concerned divisional office. They should pick one of the topics from the list and prepare a project based on it. Some of the guidelines regarding the philately project are as follows: 

  • The project should not be more than 500
  • It should not exceed 4-5 page
  • It should not have more than 16 stamps.
  • The students should submit the project within 15 days from the announcement of the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana quiz result. 

Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana Terms and Conditions 

The important terms and conditions of the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana are as follows: 

  • The awardees should maintain good conduct and continue their education as regular students.
  • In case of any fraud or irregular activities, the authorities have the right to revoke the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship.
  • The awardee should continue having a philately deposit account through the tenure of the scholarship.
  • Candidates who had applied to the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana last year can re-apply as a fresh applicant.
  • The candidates re-applying for the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana should maintain an active philately deposit account without a break.
  • The Department of Posts will assign a philately mentor to every school participating in the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship.
  • The organisers will disburse the deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana scholarship amount of INR 1,500 every quarter.
