Manipal College of Dental Sciences was established in the year 1987. It was previously known as the College of Dental Surgery. It initially had 40 students. The college has been provided guidance from accomplished professionals. The college has many peripheral clinics.

MCODS, Manipal was initially affiliated to Mysore University and then later to Mangalore University. It now has an independent university status with the guidance of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education [MAHE]. The university supports 250 dental chairs and best in class laboratories with an intake of 100 UG and 25 PG students every year. 

Manipal College of Dental Sciences admission is provided in the UG, PG, and professional certificate courses. The college has been ranked the best private dental college for the 5th time by an outlook-MDRA survey.
