Placements and Internships

4

The college, as a rule, requires that all of its students undertake an internship during the summer break after the fourth semester, i.e. after the second year. This is compulsory for all or else you will be barred from entering the third-year curriculum. I interned with Heritage Walk, Calcutta which was an unpaid internship. The college provides campus placements, for which interested students are required to follow necessary procedures and fill appropriate paperwork. Since I did not apply for placements, I do not know much about the offers or the companies that are looking to hire. Most of the seniors have opted for higher studies or are preparing for competitive exams. I do have a friend though who is working for an NGO (Teach For India). He is assigned a particular locality by TFI. His job is to go to these places and provide education for free to the children who seek them. As far as stipends go, he gets paid 19000 a month.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels are cheaper than opting for PGs or renting an apartment. The rules are strict though. In BGR, hostel facility is only available for male students at the moment. The hostel fee is somewhere around Rs. 30000 a year approximately. That is only for accommodation, the students are required to procure meals on their own. The college has a dedicated canteen which runs till late at night and starts its operations from early morning.

PGs/ other options outside the college may charge exorbitant rates, even the ones which provide only the basic of amenities. Though finding accommodation will not be a problem as the providers of the same are in plentitude.

The quality of the food is subjective. You will know when you try it. The average cost per meal would generally be around Rs. 100 - 150. Inside the campus, students will find subsidiaries of fast food chains like CCD, Nandini, etc.

The library, in BGR campus, is adequately equipped. As in, the students may not always find the books they are looking for but the library staff will help the student acquire the materials they need. The main campus library is very well equipped. The college has a host of labs, even for Journalism students, but my course rarely required lab usage, therefore, I cannot describe the labs in detail. Free Wifi for all students inside the campus, the dining halls is big and well-spaced. The key structure in the BGR campus is the auditorium, with a big stage and a seating arrangement for more than 2500 people approximately. The auditorium is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies - be it sound, visual, lights.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

The course I was part of was EPH (English, Political Science, and History). This is a triple major course which means that I did not have to select one particular subject to major in, instead, I got to major in all. I was not entirely sure if I wanted to major in Political Science or English. This unique course and combination of subjects helped me not commit right away and reserve my decision for later. This way I get to do my M.A. in any subject I choose to later on.

There is no eligibility requirement for this course per se. In my case, I had to go through a written test and then an interview. You will be required to open a temporary account while applying; on this account, you will be kept updated. The cutoffs are not specifically mentioned (but having good grades would help).

Academics and Faculty

4

My campus - Bannerghatta Road Campus(BGR), followed a school-like routine, as in, the college starts at 8:30 A.M. and ends at 3:30 P.M. Roll calls after every class. The college assigns assignments every month which contributes to a certain percentage of the total marks, computed at the end of each semester.

The quality of education, to an inquisitive mind, is excellent. The teachers are all distinguished academics but are not intimidating or unapproachable. The overall college experience was boring, but you will leave the institution enriched with new knowledge, guaranteed!

Fees and Scholarships

4.5

Christ University, Bangalore Fee Structure. The course fee is about INR Rs.60000 (First year).

For Second Year:- Rs.40000.

For Third Year:- Rs.40000.

I do not know exactly to the tune of the amount but the college provides scholarships to a host of students with an excellent academic background. On average, two students get these scholarships.

Loans are not necessary for the course I was part of. But, Commerce and Business courses are a bit heftily priced which may require securing of loans. The college has a dedicated bank for its accounting and financial needs. For any query, the bank is at a greater advantage to provide than I on matters pertaining to loans.

Clubs and Associations

4.5

There are many clubs and associations in the college to which anyone can apply. Some are interest-based and do not take in members casually. In BGR campus, management festivals were given the most importance. with cultural-based festivities following close-by. For sports, the students are required to make a sojourn to the Main campus which houses all sports-related faculty, equipment and infrastructure.

College life will be boring and at times hectic, especially during the exams. Third-year students have to submit a dissertation, which is a part of the curriculum. Managing a dissertation (which require extensive research), with the monthly assignments, the recurring festivities, and the exams will be taxing. The students will have enough time for themselves too. It does not just work and no play, it has been worked into a wonderful, perfect combination.
