Christ (Deemed to be) University, Bangalore, is indisputably one of the prestigious institutions of the city. I was intrigued by the combination of MA in English with Communication Studies, which was a perfect blend of English Literature and Media Studies. The cut-off for applying for the course was above 75% in the undergraduate degree of any field. The admission procedure was a two-step process, a written test for 10 minutes and a personal interview with the faculties followed by that. The questions were largely based on English literature and my areas of interest in the same. The admission is given based on the test and how well you perform in the personal interview. The results of the same will be published within 3 days via email or SMS. Studying in Christ, in the Department of English which celebrated its decennial year in 2018-19, and interacting with the faculty has helped me in widening my perspectives and knowledge. Also, participating in various extracurricular activities has provided me with a platform to explore beyond the books.
The Department of English has faculties who are passionate about the subject and teaching. They are always approachable and very supportive. Though the academics is hectic, with 3 internal assessments and a final semester exam all within a period of six months, once the students get a knack of it, it becomes easier. The syllabus is revised regular;y taking into account the performance and interests of the students.
The fee structure for the program is Rs. 51,000, which has to be paid through the South Indian Bank account the student has to open on the time of admission. Scholarships that comes under government are considered. The college has a scholarship cell which will further help the students with the same.
Every day, something new happens in Christ. Street plays, open mic, awareness programmes, fests, etc. makes the campus all the more vibrant and active. There are various clubs and associations the students can be a part of, as well.
