College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities
- Institute's Academic Area comprises academic buildings and facilities such as the PK Kellar Library, Computer Centre, National Wind Tunnel Facility and SIDBI Innovation and Incubation Centre. It also houses faculty offices, laboratories, and administrative buildings. The academic area is connected by a corridor which links all the major buildings.
- IIT Kanpur has 10 boys' hostels, 2 girls' hostels and one girls' residence tower all together called the 'Halls of Residence'.
- Being a major industrial town, Kanpur has a good connectivity by rail and by road but it lags in terms of air connectivity.
- IIT Kanpur was suffering significantly in comparison to IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay due to this reason as far as visiting companies and other dignitaries are concerned On 1 June 2013, a helicopter ferry service was started at IIT Kanpur run by Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited.
- In its initial run the service connects IIT Kanpur to Lucknow, but it is planned to later extend it to New Delhi.
- Currently, there are two flights daily to and from Lucknow Airport with a duration of 25 minutes.
- Lucknow Airport operates both international and domestic flights to major cities. IIT Kanpur is the first academic institution in the country to provide such a service.
- The estimated charges are Rs. 6000 (USD $100) per person. If anyone would like to avail the facility he/she have to contact Student Placement Office (SPO) at IIT Kanpur since the helicopter service is subject to availability of chopper rights.

Fees and Scholarships
- Students receive a full tuition waiver and pocket allowance of Rs. 1000 per month for the duration of the program IIT Kanpur.
- This is merit cum means based scholarship; hence, the recipients must maintain a minimum CPI of 6.5.
- However, if CPI falls below 6.5 (but remains above 6.0) then the pocket allowance is withdrawn.
- A student must only submit their parental income certificate to apply for this scholarship.
- This scholarship can be availed by those who are other than category (SC/ST) students with annual parental income less than 4.5 lakhs.
Clubs and Associations
- SAC is the hub for most of the major extra-curricular activities.
- There are two SAC buildings, the older building(Old-SAC) and the other (New-SAC), which was recently built.
- New-SAC has an open-air theatre (OAT) with a capacity of over 1400 people.
- The SAC is maintained and managed by the Students' Gymkhana at IIT Kanpur.
- The college festivals: Antaragni, Techkriti and Udghosh are planned and executed by the Core Teams (comprised entirely of students) at the behest of the Students' Gymkhana - which oversees all student activities. The Students' Senate is an empowered body which acts as a medium to convey the aspirations of students to the Institute authorities.
