College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

3.5

  • Hostels are not that good in shape, some have these are about 60-70 years old as well. Although regular rennovations are done, they are not up to the mark. But if you can, you can still keep them clean. To make up for that, you get the best ethernet speed in India, about 100Mbps. And the wifi is okay as well. The fees is almost non existent at almost Rs 20000 per annum.
  • The food is something that you will have to live with. Many have promised, but nothing has changed. But it is okay considering that you only pay 60 Rs for 3 meals of a day.
  • Classrooms are fine, labs are fine and everything else is okay. But the departments, particularly Electrical, are old and their halls sometimes leak water. Everything else if fine and if not top notch, liveable.

Academics and Faculty

3.5

  • First  of all, everybody would love to start their day with jogging in the LBS Stadium. Our class schedule is a little liberal, yet messy. Somedays you will only have 3 hours of classes, and other days you might have to contribute 8 hours of your day. Half of that time is alloted to practical classes. Professors are geniuses but the only flaw is that they do not know  how to teach a class. You can go by yourself to them and they will explain it to you in the easiest way possible, but this endeavour you will have to take on your own.
  • But the overall experience is good because of all the people that you meet here and the platform that you get.

Fees and Scholarships

5

  • Fees is now emerging as a problem for few students. But if your family annual income is less than Rs 4.5 lakhs per annum you will have not have to pay the tution fees and you will get extra Rs 1000 per month for your expenditure. It will make your annual charges fall down to less than Rs 50,000, which is less than what it costs a person to live in his own house for 8 months. If you family annual income is more than Rs 4.5 lakhs and you are not an SC or an ST, you will have to pay more than Rs 2.4 lakhs for 8 months.
  • But still, you can avail certain state provided scholarships but you will have to keep updated on them as they come and go in a blue. State Scholarships Easily Available. FI(Family Income) less than Rs 4.5 lakhs: Rs 50 thousand total cost for 1 year. (MC scholarships).  FI less than Rs 9 lakhs: Loan at 0% interest rate for a period of 5 years. (Fees is about Rs 2.4 Lakhs for a year). SC or ST: Around Rs 50 thousand for 1 year.
  • Also, you can avail loans at 0% rate from the government of India programme if your family income is less than 9 lakhs per annum.

Clubs and Associations

4.5

  • Clubs are amazing. Great people and you will find every group that you are looking from. Ranging from Audio sectio(Manages sound and audio in events) to RDSG(Roorkee Data Science group). Every field that you can think of has a club. And there are no restrictions for any branch member to enter any group.
  • Thomso and Cognizance are two annual festivals of IIT Roorkee. Both of these attract quite heavy audiences are worth watching. The sports facilities are one of the best in the country. You can play any sport ranging from swimming to squash to Snooker.

Academics & Faculty : The daily routine is very manageable and the schedule provides adequate time for the students to pursue their interests and extra-cirriculars. The quality of teaching is superb with highly qualified professors clearing all doubts and queries and making the concepts clearer altogether. This time is the best tie of my life thanks to the college experience.
