Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Hyderabad was established in the year 2008. It is one of the 2nd generations IIT started by the Government of India. It is one of the top-ranked institutions in India. IIT Hyderabad was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. The Act was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012. It was set up in technical and financial assistance from the Government of Japan. Students seeking admission after Higher Secondary Examination of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, or its equivalent are admitted through an Entrance Examination JEE. At first round for B.Des counselling, the seats are provisionally allotted to the candidates based on their choices, the seat available as per the seat matrix and their UCEED ranks. Digital copies of Certificates are verified and if found in order, a candidate gets the seat allotment letter, with a provision to either freeze or float. The candidates accept the seats provisionally allotted by paying 60000 through a common online payment portal. The second round is Document verification & Registration Students accepted the admission to IIT G after payment of Rs. 60,000/- will report at IIT Hyderabad .
The college presently offers a few Postgraduate courses. For admission to M.Tech candidates must fulfill the eligibility requirements as prescribed by the College. All admissions are made strictly in accordance with the college rules in force at the time of admission.

IITH has a joint Ph.D program with Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. All first year Ph.D students are eligible for admission to the joint Ph.D. program, however, the selection is based on faculty recommendation and performance in the interview. Under this program the selected students get to spend one year at SUT for doing research. The selected students will be jointly guided by an IITH faculty member and an SUT faculty.
