Delhi School of Economics was established in the year in 1949 by V.K.R.V. Rao. It was with the support of the then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It was built on a vision of the Social and Economic Progress of an independent nation. It is located on the premises of Delhi University. DSE is a constituent department under the University of Delhi and is affiliated with it as well. It is also approved by the University Grants Commission.

The School comprises 3 departments namely Economics, Geography, and Sociology and they come under the Faculty of Social Sciences. The teaching and research focus has evolved over the years to reflect changing social and disciplinary concerns. The academic activities of the School are now recognized worldwide and their study has been very useful in planning and policymaking in India. Delhi School of Economics Admission is on the basis of Merit as well as the dedicated entrance exam. 

Research is given importance at DSE and it is funded by the Centre for Development Economics, Ministry of Finance. It also maintains a strong link with scholars all over the world and hosts many visitors. This global linking has helped students to be guided by experts and do very well in their research work. It combines rigor with relevance, giving the student a thorough grounding in economic theory, empirical techniques, and contemporary policy debates. Students get exposure to a wide range of courses and also gain experience in doing fieldwork, analyzing data, handling statistical software packages, making presentations, and writing reports and papers.

  • The candidate should have passed 10+2 or the equivalent with scores over 40% in aggregate from a recognized board.
B.A. {Hons}
  • The candidate should have passed 10+2 or the equivalent with scores over 45% in aggregate from a recognized board.
  • Candidate should have a B.A. (Hons.) Economics of the University of Delhi with 50% or more marks in the aggregate.
  • [Or] Candidate should have First Class with 60% or more marks in Graduate/Post-graduate degree in any other subject from the University of Delhi or any Indian University recognized by the University of Delhi.
  • Candidate should have done post-graduation from recognized university or equivalent in relevant stream.
  • Candidate should have done post-graduation from a recognized university or equivalent.

Delhi School of Economics Admissions:

Delhi School of Economics admissions happens on either direct admission and through entrance test. The guidelines are as per the rules laid down by the University of Delhi.

  • UG applicants must have scored over 40% and should have passed in the specializing course.
  • Admissions are done online through the DU Website.
  • MA seats are 50% earmarked for direct admission of students who have graduated with B.A. Economics (Hons) of the University of Delhi. 
  • The rest 50% are filled through an entrance test.
  • M.Phil/Ph.D. admissions are done online through the DU website and entrance tests will be conducted.

DSE Hostel Facilities:

Delhi School of Business is part of the Delhi University Campus and the rooms are allotted by the DU and the institute will assist students in getting the accommodation. DSE Facilities are really good and they cater to the need of every hosteler.

  • There are 7 boys hostels and 2 girls hostels on the campus and they provide all the basic amenities required to the resident hosteler.

Master of Arts [MA] (Economics), batch of 2017

Classes are usually over before lunch(1 pm). Sometimes it extended to 3 pm. The quality of teaching is too good, all the professors are highly qualified and expert in their fields. Overall experience is amazing in college.


There are many socities in the campus.
