Delhi School of Economics was established in 1949 by V.K.R.V. Rao, with the support of the then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. DSE was built on a vision of the Social and Economic Progress of an independent nation. It is located on the premises of Delhi University. DSE is a constituent department under the University of Delhi and is affiliated with it as well. It is also approved by the University Grants Commission.

The admission process for DSE happens on the basis of the guidelines set by the University of Delhi. A minimum score of 40% is necessary to be eligible to apply for UG courses. PG admission criteria are 50% through the merit list and 50% through entrance exam scores. Ph.D. and M.Phil candidates must have a previous background in the courses they are applying to in the Delhi School of Economics.

  • B.A. (Hons.) examination in a Social Science/Humanities subject such as Social Work, Journalism, Anthropology Economics, History, Psychology, Political Science, Geography, Philosophy, Education, Linguistics or other exams in a social science subject considered as the equivalent of B.Sc. (Hons.) examination in Anthropology of the University of Delhi or any other recognized University with 55% (OR)
  • BA/B. Com with one of the following subjects comprising at least two papers of B.A(Pass) standard: sociology, Social or Cultural Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, History, Geography, Philosophy, Education, social work, Journalism and Linguistics with 55% marks (OR)

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process

The eligibility for merit-based admission is that you must be graduated in economics (BA Economics honors) from any of the DU colleges. For entrance eligibility is person must be graduated from any stream and from any (standard) University. There is an entrance exam of DSE of its own named DU entrance exam for Post graduation. The typical cutoff of the entrance is around 125/200 for general category and 105 for OBC and 95+ for SC/ST.
