Tamil Nadu BTech admission 2023 is being conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai. Various government and self-financed engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu accept students based on their TNEA exam scores. Further, many other public, private and deemed universities in the state offer engineering admissions through JEE Main, SRMJEE, VITEEE, etc.

Tamil Nadu BTech Admission Procedure

The Tamil Nadu BTech Admission process takes place online. Candidates are required to fill up the application form released by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) by registering on the official website. The admission process is mentioned below.

  • Step 1: Candidates should register themselves on the official website of DoTE.
  • Step 2: Candidates must fill in the application form released online by logging in using their registration credentials.
  • Step 3: Next, general category candidates must pay INR 500 as the application fee. The fee for SC/ST and other reserved categories is INR 250 and INR 100, respectively.
  • Step 4: The university prepares and publishes the TNEA rank list. Candidates whose names appear in this list are eligible for Tamil Nadu BTech admission.
  • Step 5: Candidates who are selected are called for counselling at centres selected by the committee by scheduling specific dates and times for candidates.

Tamil Nadu BTech Selection Process

General and Reserved Category Admission 

The authorities prepare a rank list on the basis of marks achieved by candidates in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The marks obtained in PCM are reduced to 200 (Physics+Chemistry = 100 and Mathematics = 100).

The Normalisation of Marks & Inter-Se Merit

The normalisation method is also utilised in the process of selection. Here, the highest marks attained in relevant subjects by candidates in TN board exams are equated with the highest marks achieved by candidates in the same subjects in other state board exams. Once the normalisation process is done, a common merit list is published for all the qualified candidates.

BTech Admissions in Tamil Nadu Eligibility Criteria

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission Committee has set certain eligibility criteria for admissions. Candidates are expected to meet the requirements before applying for admission. The eligibility criteria are as follows.

  • Tamil Nadu native candidates who have passed their Class VIII to Class XII in the state can apply for Tamil Nadu BTech admission. Such students are also eligible to claim certain reservation policies and scholarship schemes. 
  • Candidates whose parents are or were Central Government employees for 5 years continuously in Tamil Nadu will be considered for admission. However, they must submit a 'Nativitiy Certificate', along with the application form.
  • Candidates from states other than Tamil Nadu can apply to private engineering colleges. They shall get admitted based on seat availability.
  • General category applicants should have cleared class 12th with at least 50%. For OBC and reserved categories, the mark requirement is 45% and 40%, respectively. Moreover, they must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as the main subjects. 

Entrance Exams Accepted by Tamil Nadu Engineering Colleges

Candidates can appear for national, state, and university-level engineering entrance exams for Tamil Nadu BTech admission. A few entrance exam scores considered for admissions are mentioned below.

TNEA Counselling 2023

Those candidates who successfully pass the TNEA exam can attend the online TNEA counselling 2023 process. Candidates get to participate in counselling according to their categories, ranks, and the choices filled. Once the counselling process concludes, the TNEA participating institutes declare the seat allocation results. On the basis of the seats allocated, candidates must report to the assigned colleges.

The following are the major steps involved in TNEA Counselling 2023:

  1. Firstly, eligible candidates should register for TNEA counselling process.
  2. Following registration, candidates will get a 10-digit random number.
  3. Next, candidates must complete the document verification process, which takes place at the TNEA Facilitation Center (TFC).
  4. Once the document verification process is over, the rank will be released.
  5. Candidates can now participate in different stages of counselling based on their ranks. They must pay the counselling fee and complete choice filling and locking. 
  6. Then, the final seat allotment result will be declared by the authorities. 
  7. Based on seat allocation, candidates should report to the designated college.

Seat Allotment Process for Tamil Nadu BTech Admission 2023

The authorities publish the seat allotment result on the official portal after the choice filling or option entry process is done. Candidates must confirm their seats before the specified deadline. They can exercise one of the following three options:

  1. Agreeing and confirming the current allotment: This option can be chosen by candidates who are happy with the seat allocated. However, they will not be permitted to participate in further counselling rounds.
  2. Declining current allotment and moving to the next round: In case candidates are dissatisfied with the seat, they can go with this option and attend the subsequent rounds of counselling.
  3. Declining current allotment and quitting counselling: If candidates want to quit the counselling process, they must choose this option. 

Those candidates who wish to accept the allotted seat must pay the initial admission fee for admission confirmation. For general category students, the initial admission fee is INR 5,000. Those who belong to reserved categories must pay INR 1,000 for the same.
