Madras University, established in 1857, is a public university following the model of London University. It was one of the first five institutes to be considered as the University with Potential of Excellence [UPE] by the UGC. NAAC has awarded it an A-grade. 

Madras University NIRF Ranking was #50 in the university category. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses through the affiliated institutions, which are spread over Chennai, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram districts, and provides a choice-based credit system. UNOM accepts TANCET scores for admission to MCA and MBA courses.

Madras University Scholarship

Madras University offers a variety of scholarships to students based on merit and keeping in mind their financial status. Apart from scholarships, the complete waiver of fees is granted to the poorest students in the PG course selected based on the merit of each PG course. The parents' annual income of that student has to be less than INR 1,00,000.
