Placements and Internships

According to the curriculum the cadet has to undergo 6 months training on a ship in the last semester i.e. 8th semester for completing the graduation. Stipend depends upon company to company ranging from 300$ to 1000$ p.m. The companies are NYKSM, MSC, Anglo Eastern Shipmanagent Ltd., Great Eastern Shipping LTD, Thome Shipmanagent, Shipping Corporation of India. After getting the degree Cadet has to clear MEO Class 4 examination conducted by Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) under the DG Shipping India To become a licensed Marine Engineer. The salary varies from company to company and ship to ship from 1500$ to 3000$ p.m. Every year around 50-60% Cadets gets placement. There is a great network of Alumni around the global world in many shipping companies. Some of them are heading the shipping companies.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

There are basically 4 hostels one for each year. Hostels are good and also new constructions are going on so the quality of hostels is also improving. Hostel fees, Mess and laundry Charges are included in the fees. Staying in the hostel is compulsory for all the students. Quality of classrooms is also good and under renovation, some classrooms have Air Conditioner also. WiFi facility is available in hostels as well as in college Building. Cadets also have the facility of Library in the college which includes many books and magazines related to marine and engineering fields.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

Eligibility criteria are 10+2 from PCM stream with minimum 60% in PCM for B.Tech (Marine Engineering). Should be less than 25 years of age. There is an Entrance Exam known as Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test ( IMU-CET) for the admissions in the colleges under Indian Maritime University, Chennai. There are basically two rounds of counseling. The cutoff for the First Round of General Cat. Is around 1000 rank in IMU-CET and for the Second Round is around 1700 rank in IMU-CET.

Academics and Faculty

Attending classes regularly is compulsory because there is a rule to have minimum 85% attendance to give the semester exams. Classes are conducted on regular basis from 9:30 am to 17:00 pm with one hour of lunch break from 13:00 pm to 14:00 pm. Quality of teaching is good as many professors are the pass out of this College who sailed on the ships and then came back for teaching. Overall it's a good learning experience if one wants to learn and enjoy engineering with a good hostel life and also at the same time companies starts their recruitment from the 5th semester.

Fees and Scholarships

Fees for B.Tech(Marine Engineering) is 2,25,000/- INR per year. Cadets who score good marks in semester exams get the scholarship from the Indian Maritime University, Chennai. One who tops the university gets 1,00,000 INR and those who rank from 2 to 30 in the semester exams gets INR 75,000 each and those who rank from 31 to 60 gets INR 50,000 each. Yes, Education loan is required to pay such a huge amount of fees every year. It is available from any bank as per your preference.

Clubs and Associations

Yes, there are various societies which organize various events depending on their works. TEMPEST is the major college fest which includes Cultural, Sports, and Technical events. It is been organized by the Cadets of the college. College life is good. One can learn various things which are useful for shipping life as well as in normal routine life.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : IMU CET exam is conducted every year for admission to IMU colleges. After getting a fine rank you will be eligible for this college as this is the best college among IMU colleges. If u get rank within 500 in general category you can easily get admission.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The best in India, and the 2nd Best in Asia, MERI has been a brand for Marine Engineering students in India. For admission, one needs to apply for the IMU CET exam, generally held during the month of May. But to apply, you need to have a Science background in High School with 60 percent and above marks in the board's exam in all the science subjects and English too. Once you are eligible, you have to make sure you rank within 600 in the exam to get through this college. Placements are good and nearly 100 percent except for the candidates who have arrears during the time of Campus Interview.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : One should have 75% in PC in their 12tyh Board. Age limit is 25 years. You can take as many attempts as you want within 25 years of age. Nowadays IMUCET is the examination held to take admission in IMU courses. For admission in Kolkata campus which is best of India, you need rank within top 600 if you are in general.
