Indian Maritime University (IMU), a Central University based in Chennai, India, was established in 2008 under the Indian Maritime University Act. It is dedicated to providing education and training in maritime disciplines such as navigation, marine engineering, maritime law, and marine management.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Marine Engineering

1. Educational Qualification

• Candidates must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as mandatory subjects from a recognized board.

2. Minimum Marks

• PCM Aggregate: Minimum 60% marks.
• English: Minimum 50% marks in the 10+2 examination.
• Lateral Entry: Details available in the brochure.

3. Relaxations

• For SC/ST Candidates:
• 5% relaxation in PCM marks (not applicable for English).
• For Lakshadweep & Andaman & Nicobar Island Scheduled Tribe Candidates:
• Additional 5% relaxation in English marks, provided candidates and their parents were born in the islands and belong to the recognized Scheduled Tribes.

4. Age Limit

• Maximum Age: Calculated as of 01.08.2024.
  • General: 25 years, OBC (NCL): 28 years, SC/ST: 30 years.

5. Physical Fitness

• Candidates must meet the physical standards specified in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000 (as amended).

General Fitness:

• A medical certificate from a doctor approved by the Directorate General of Shipping is mandatory.

Eyesight Requirements:

• No evidence of morbid conditions in the eyes or lids that could risk recurrence or aggravation.
• Binocular Vision: Must have good fusion faculty and a full field of vision in both eyes.
• Eye Movement: Full movement in all directions, with pupils reacting normally to light and accommodation.
• Colour Vision: Must pass the Ishihara Test.
• Distance Vision (Unaided):
• Better Eye: 0.67 (6/9).
• Other Eye: 0.33 (6/18).

Eligibility for M.Tech:

1. Educational Qualification

Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

• Option 1: BE/B.Tech in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
• Option 2: Associate Member of Institution of Engineers (Part A and Part B) in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
• Option 3: MEO Class I Certificate of Competency issued by the Government of India.

2. Relaxation

• SC/ST Candidates:
• A relaxation of 5% in minimum marks is provided; however, this does not apply to marks in the English subject.

3. Age Limit

• No age limit for this program.

4. Medical Certificate

• Candidates must submit a Physical Fitness Certificate issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner during certificate verification.

Eligibility Criteria for MBA:

1. Educational Qualification
   Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
2. Minimum Marks
   At least 50% aggregate marks and 50% in English in the 10th, 12th, or Degree examination.
3. Relaxation
   SC/ST candidates are eligible for a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks, except for English marks.
4. Age Limit
   There is no age limit for this program.
5. Medical Certificate
   Candidates must provide a Physical Fitness Certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner during certificate verification.

Eligibility Criteria for MS:

1. Educational Qualification
   Candidates must have completed a UG degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 55% marks/CGPA, except for Mariners who are required to have a Master/MEO Class I Certificate.
2. Relaxation
   A 5% relaxation in marks or its equivalent grade is applicable to candidates from SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled/Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories, as per the Government of India's guidelines.

 Eligibility  Criteria for PHD:

• Educational Qualification
  Candidates must have completed one of the following:
  a. A 1-year/2-semester Master's degree or 2-year/4-semester Master's degree following a 3-year Bachelor's degree or an equivalent foreign qualification.
  b. A 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 75% marks or an equivalent grade.
  c. An M.S. (By Research) awarded by IMU.
  d. Mariners holding Master/MEO Class I Certificates or PGDMOM qualifications, with at least 2 years of teaching experience at the degree level in IMU/affiliated institutes/Directorate General of Shipping-approved institutes, are eligible until 2023-24 or as determined by the Vice Chancellor.
  e. A minimum of 55% aggregate marks in both Bachelor's and Master's degrees unless otherwise specified.

• Relaxation
  A 5% relaxation in marks or its equivalent grade may be granted to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled/Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories, as per the guidelines of the Government of India.

Steps for Filling the IMU CET Online Application Form

1. Visit the Official Website
   Begin the registration process by visiting the official IMU website.
2. Basic Registration
   After completing the basic registration, click the 'Submit' button. The system will generate an Application Number, which will be sent to the candidate via email and SMS.
3. Login Details
   For future logins, candidates must use the system-generated Application Number as their Login ID and their Date of Birth as their Password.
4. Detailed Registration
   In the 'Detailed Registration' section, candidates must fill in additional details such as:

• Address for correspondence
• Educational details
• Preferred exam cities
  After filling in these details, candidates will upload the required scanned documents and complete the payment for the CET registration fee.
