The admission to VIT University is based on an entrance test called VITEEE, which is conducted in December every year. Students are grouped into 5 Categories based on their merit and their fees structure will depend on their category. Students with All India Ranks 1-8000 will be categorised as a category (1), 8000-25000 (Category 2) 25000-50000 (Category 3) and so on.

Class timings, faculty and venue of classes are pre-scheduled for students in first semester while from the second semester, students will have access to FFCS (Fully Flexible Credits System) which allows students to select their courses, number of credits they want to complete in that particular semester, faculty, venue and timings of the class.
