No internships and stipends are offered for this course. Students pursuing this course, in general, opt for higher degrees in the academic line. So there is no campus hiring offered for the course. The alumni network is mostly informal and organizes reuniouns.

There are 16 hostel facilities provided by the University. More than 1500 students can find accomodation. The undergraduates and postgraduates have different hostel facilities. Application forms are to be filled to get accomodation in the hostels. Annual hostel fees is between 2040/- to 2160/-. There are PGs also ranging between from 2000/- and 4000/- for those who do not get hostel accomodation. The canteen offers good food at subsidised prices. cost per meal in the hotels surrounding the University start from 50/- per plate for plain veg and going up to 80/- for non-veg. The classrooms are huge and old fashioned with the traditional style of teaching.

The eligibity criteria for a candidate aspiring to enroll for MA in English in 2010 was a cut off of 55% in graduation. For a candidate to take up Masters in English from the University of Calcutta, he/she must hold specialization in English Literature or Comparative Literature or Communicative English in the Bachelors Degree. However, now after graduating with a BA(Honours) degree, applications forms are to be filled up and submitted post which entrance examinations are conducted to further shortlist candidates for the course. 

Classes start at 10.30am and end at 4.30pm. Exams are held in the months of June-July. The quality of teaching is very good since the department consists of few of the best professors and lectureres in English literature, who also teach abroad. 

Since its a goveernment institution, the course is as low as under 5000/-. Dr. Hensi Stephen Scholarship is presented to MA English students.

There are no such societies, but the students' union arrange for a number of programs. Often literary figures of consequence are invited at the auditorium as part of literary meets. Saraswati Puja and Holi are the two main festivals celebrated inside the campus. Cultural programs are also organized by the students union. Situated in one of India's biggest book markets, viz. College Street, the Calcutta University offers good life amid studies and intellectual debates.
