We have a strong alumni network as our college dates to 1941, and we have some techno experts in Ceramic tech as well as computer science.
Entrance Exams & Admissions :
The eligibility criteria in getting admission into GCECT was to get a decent rank(which changes every year) in Joint Entrance Examination conducted by West Bengal State government.
I took WBJEE entrance exam for the admission into this course.
I opted for computer science & engineering for which the opening and closing ranks were 2308 to 4000 (approximately).
Fees & Scholarships :
The course fee per year is Rs. 12000 per year (computer science), Rs 6000 per year (ceramic technology), Information Technology(Rs 24000 per year ).
Scholarship is based on income range of the students' parents. If the annual family income is less than Rs 60000, then a full free scholarship is awarded to the beneficiary.
In every batch, at least 20 people avail full and half free scholarships.
As the fees are quite less if compared to the private colleges, usually, loans are not required.
Academics & Faculty :
Daily routine is well structured with equal importance to all the subjects.
Most of the professors teach the basics as well as advanced subjects in a lucid way (artificial engineering, cryptography, game theory).
I will always cherish the experience I had in my college.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
PGs are available but we have a problem with college hostel. Hence students not situated in Kolkata have to pay hefty amounts in renting flats or PGs.
Labs and libraries are good, but classrooms need more maintenance
Clubs & Associations :
We have an apolitical union in college which takes care of student grievances. Also , we have a Tie up with Linux; several new operating systems on Fedora launched in our college campus.
We have Jagriti, our main cultural fest , which is an annual event bringing the past and present in a single platform.
Life in college is really good, as students make the best of it and embark on a professional journey after that. Huge respect for my college.
