1. Follow the Syllabus and Pattern
Students preparing for GATE non-CSE discipline should not deviate from topics included in the syllabus. Stick to the prescribed GATE syllabus 2025 as questions are asked from it. A few days before the exam, we suggest not to study any new topics. This will only lead to confusion and anxiety. With this, go through the paper pattern to understand mark distribution and high-weightage topics.
According to the GATE exam pattern 2025, there are two sections in each discipline. 15 marks are allotted to the General Aptitude section and 75 marks for the domain subject. Your aim should be to score 90+ marks in the GATE exam to be able to qualify the cut-off marks of the institutes you are interested in.

3. Chalk Out Your Schedule for the GATE Non-CSE exam
Ideally, you should begin your GATE exam preparation 7-8 months before the exam. Prepare a study schedule and follow the same regularly. Give more than 50% of your schedule to domain subjects. This will surely help you understand core topics, practice and revise the same within the given time. Apart from theoretical concepts, dedicate a slot to practice numerical and focus on problem-solving topics as well.

Solving the GATE previous years papers gives an edge to the preparation. Once you are done with 40 to 50 per cent of the syllabus, practice at least the past 7-8 years of question papers. 5. Attempt the GATE Mock Test
Take at least 7-8 GATE mock tests 2025 from a trustworthy website or coaching. Mock tests are a kind of revision of the topics you have studied so far. Analyze each test and check the areas that need improvement. Track your score obtained in each test and work on weak topics to get 90+ marks which will eventually enhance your confidence level. During the mock focus on time management and accuracy.
Try to complete the questions on time with a good accuracy level. Note that there are negative marks in the GATE exam and it is better to solve only the known questions than solve the entire paper with lots of errors.
