Placements and Internships

4

PESIT-BSC has a huge advantage when it comes to placements since the placements are jointly held for PESU and PESIT-BSC. This allows the students to attend the placement drives for a lot more companies when compared to the other engineering colleges in Bangalore. Computer Science and Information Science sees close to a 100% placements. Electronics and Communication also get enough companies, however, the number of core companies are quite less compared their CS and IS counterparts. Mechanical Engineering department suffers in terms of placements since the number of core companies that recruit the students are really less but most of the students do end up finding an IT job. Not many internship opportunities are available during the academic season since the college is pretty strict about attendance.

  • A given student can keep job offers from a maximum of two companies at a given time.
  • In PESIT, the companies that come for recruitment falls into three categories based on their CTC- Tier 1 (8 lacs and above), Tier 2 (4-8 lacs), Tier 3(Below 4 lacs).
  • A student can have only one offer in a given tier.
  • A student can have either a T3 and a T2 offer or a T2 and a T1 offer. However, if a student gets a T2 offer first, he/she becomes inelgible to attend a T2 or a T3 company. Similarly, if a student gets a T1 offer first, he becomes inelgible for any further placement activities.

The college conducts interactive sessions with the alumni for the final and pre-final year students, that helps a lot during the placement season. The seniors are really friendly and you can approach them anytime you need some help and guidance.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

The college has boys and girls hostel facility available. The boys hostel is on the campus and the girl hostel is in the Amaatra Academy campus ( school run by PES group). Most students live in the hostel while a few them take PGs or apartments near the college. Due to the colleges' close proximity to the Electronic City, affordable PGs and apartments can be easily found.

The campus has four canteens. All the four serve decent food, both north-Indian and south-Indian, at affordable prices throughout the day. There are a lot of fast food eateries close to the college campus as well.

The overall infrastructure of the college is pretty good. The classrooms and the labs are well equipped with all the necessary apparatus. There is a two-storeyed library which has all the curriculum-based textbooks as well as major international journals and publication subscription. Wi-Fi is available in areas around the library, however, most parts of the campus do not have access to Wi-Fi.

There is a cricket ground, a football ground, two basketball courts, a tennis court, two badminton courts and a gymnasium on campus to cater to the needs of the interested students.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

PESIT Bangalore South Campus (PESIT-BSC) admits students for the B.E course through two entrance examinations- CET and ComedK. I joined PESIT through the Comedk examination. The admission is purely based on merit. However, there is a percentage of seats reserved for the management category. PESIT-BSC offers the engineering course in four disciplines- Computer Science and Engineering, Information Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Academics and Faculty

4

The college functions from Monday to Friday. Classes start at 8 am and goes on until 3:30 pm with two breaks, at 10:15 am (Short break) and 12: 45 pm (lunch break). In a semester, there are three sets of internal assessment tests, one in each month. Semester end exams happen in accordance to the university norms.

The quality and method of teaching are really good. All the classrooms have a DLP projector for presentations and the labs are well equipped. The faculty is very friendly and encourage student interaction and doubts clarification in the classroom. Students can also approach them with project ideas if any and the teachers will readily help them out.

Overall, on the academic basis, PESIT-BSC is the place to be. Everyone here ends up doing pretty well without stressing themselves out.

Fees and Scholarships

3.5

  • The total annual fees for students admitted through the CET is close to INR 45,000 and that for ComedK is around INR 1,48,000.
  • Scholarship options are available for the economically weaker sections and for a few people with some kind of a reservation.
  • Loans are easily available from most banks if needed.

Clubs and Associations

3.5

On the extracurricular front, there is a college theatre team, a dance team (Western and contemporary) and the sports teams. They actively participate in various fests and competitions across India. SH@PES is a culmination of all the clubs that manages all the various clubs in college.

The annual techno-cultural fest of PESIT-BSC, Maaya is a two-day event that happens in the month of October. Colleges from all over the country come to participate in various events. ACM and IEEE organisations are also very active. Activity day, the inter-department competitions happen in the even semester and witnesses active participation from all the students

Entrance Exams & Admissions : I prepared for three exams, JEE Main, JEE Advanced and CET. PESIT was allotted to me in the first round of CET. Normally 12th graduates take the test for college admission. After getting allotted a seat, I went ahead and verified the documents at an assigned location by KEA and after a month or so paid my fees and completed other formalities. The cut offs vary every year depending on the flux of students taking this test.
